Knock, knock. Anyone home?

Amish just walk in to their neighbor's houses?

That was kind of a shock to me too, but you know a lot of people do leave their doors unlocked and she wasn't anticipating for someone to be coming by.

The group's religion wasn't mentioned (perhaps on purpose), but they were closer to Quaker than Amish. Even so, neither Quakers nor Amish would be so intolerant of "outsiders".

But you are right, the other woman just walking in was odd -- not just for the religion but for the time period. Friends and neighbors of that time would have announced their presence by calling out before they even stepped foot on the porch. Only someone intending harm would walk in completely unannounced.
