Two Versions fo this movie

Did anyone else notice there are two versions of this movie and both were shown recently on Hallmark?

**SPOILERS**
In one version, Rebecca and Johnny are found together in bed and she is shunned. But her son still goes to work with the Weaver kid and both are attacked which leads up to Johnny going after the outlaws and Rebecca getting shot. This is the version shown most recently on Hallmark (July 2007).

But about two months ago, I taped this movie, having had seen it years ago and being a Tim Daly fan, I wanted to see it again. But in this version, Johnny and Rebecca don't get together and caught until nearly the end of the movie. She is not shunned, but must go in front of the congregation and confess her sin and promise not to sin again. Once there, she decides that love cannot be a sin and decides to go with Johnny who is now riding off. The movie ends with an overhead shot of the two of them getting married.

I honestly thought I had remembered the movie wrong when I watched the second synopsis until I caught the end of the first version last Saturday on Hallmark. So does anyone know why they filmed and showed two versions? They basically end up the same (Rebecca and Johnny together) but the 40 minutes or so leading up to the endings are very different.

Rebecca goes in front of the congregation, confess her sin, changes her mind and there's the overhead shot of the two of them getting married. Then she is shunned (the guy coming to shun her called her Mrs Gault) but her son still goes to work with the Weaver kid and both are attacked which leads up to Johnny going after the outlaws and Rebecca getting shot....

I would think the end just got cut on what you called the second version!

I just saw this movie for the first time on the Hallmark channel, about a week or two ago and they did in fact show the overhead shot of them getting married, then they went to a commercial, but it did return to show the rest.

Now I have seen this movie on Hallmark, and being a HUGE Tim Daly fan, I immediately went to Amazon and ordered the DVD. It is a somewhat extended version because it is uncut...and honestly, the scenes that were cut for Hallmark, really would've made what we did see have more of an impact.

For instance when Johnny gets out of bed and goes to the door to help Rebecca when those men arrive, he collapses...Hallmark's next scene was him back in bed with a fever. Which made you think oh he'll pull through no big deal. In the uncut version, before that scene they show the doctor returning to the farm and telling her that an infection has gotten into his lungs and that he will die, even gives her medicine to "ease his passing". To me seeing this scene would've given the scene with him back in bed and her praying by his beside more of an impact. That is one example.

Also, on DVD, the scene where they finally make love is longer, and I really love the way it was edited and shot...seeing it gave me more insight into their relationship, and just how far it had gone, which showed a deeper connection between the two. The Hallmark version just looks like they got interrupted before anything could happen, other than passionate kissing.

I just saw and taped this again the other day.

it was shown on Reels cable channel.

And it was just like you described in the DVD version

It captures each network's greed for advertising time how much of the original film is shown. The different versions are just edited "for time" meaning cut out scenes. And apparently even the ending!!! It's a crime.

I just saw this on the Western channel for the first time. It was a full 2 hours. But it didn't show them getting married at the end--he takes her home from the doctor, and as the credits start he is shown in silhouette playing the harmonica. There was also some language I think would have been cut on Hallmark.

Nobody gets to be a cowboy forever.
