Angel and the the Badman...anyone notice?

Did anyone else notice the storyline correlation to an old John Wayne movie...Angel and the Badman. A gunslinger is taken in when wounded by a religious family (in this case Society of Friends); falls for the young woman of good moral character; after a run in with his old life decides to forsake it for her sake; she gets wounded and he swears off the old life all together; she gets better and they all live happily ever after?

Not that I'm complaining...I love both of these movies. I was just wondering if anyone else ever saw this too.

Good eye, and yes I noticed immediately. I actually just watched Angel and the Badman the other night (huge Jonh Wayne fan). It makes me wonder how many other people have noticed that. Granted they would have to have seen both movies or at least a knowledge of the plot for both. There are of course subtle differences (for reasons of copyrighting, author plagerism, director plagerism, etc.) Anyways, good call! and I agree, both great movies, no complaints here either.

A big difference between the two movies is the religious intolerance displayed the sect in "The Outsider." Quakers, the religion in "The Angel and the Badman," do not shun a person who marries outside of the religion.

I just saw the description and was: a remake of Angel and the Badman?

I just saw the end of this and immediately thought of Angel and the Badman (which I adore!)

Luckily it will be on again tomorrow morning so I can see it all the way through.

It’s good to dream

A little late, but I noticed as well -- and Hallmark did do a remake of Angel and the Badman, called the same.

This movie takes generously both from Angel and the Badman (John Wayne and Gail Russell) and from Shane

When he comes out of the house to support the homeowner being threatened by the bad men--- that matches when Shane appears around the side of the house near the start of Shane and says "I'm a friend of Starretts" when asked, "Who are you stranger?"

The gun shooting scene in the Outsider where he shoots for the little boy was baldly taken from Shane.

The two movies you mention and a touch of Witness. Her cap falls on the ground. Equal opportunity borrower, but I'm a sucker for westerns and Naomi Watts. Sigh. I wonder if Kevin Costner saw this gunfight before making Open Range: the bullet in the bad guy's forehead and the woman inserting herself in the fight.

There were some clear differences between both movies. 1: In the Outsider Naomi Watts was a widow in Angel & The Badman Gail Russell was not married. 2: The character of the doctor 3: Rebecca's family really had no love for her or anyone. It was revealing that Noah ( Keith Carradine) wanted to marry her to have more kids for work. Not love, economics, or even obligation just work. That does not happen in Angel & The Badman. 4: Naomi Watts gets prettier throughout The Outsider while Gail Russell is always a knockout. 5: The part where Rebecca had to confess her sins. She did sleep with Daly out of wedlock, but they did marry. One thing that is true about both movies is John Wayne and Tim Daly did not have happy lives ( especially Daly) and did not consider themselves worth Y of the women but God had a plan and allowed them to survive and end up with women who are right for them.
