what are bleacher bums?

I watched this movie from a character study point of view. As such it did not disappoint me. About baseball I don't understand a thing (I live in Malaysia where this sport is unknown). Am interested to hear what "Bleacher Bums" means/ stand for. Anyone?

Thank you. I think I would have enjoyed the play this movie was based on tremendously. One of my favourite scenes was when they tried to get a reaction from the opponent player in the field by antagonizing him. Just when you think he is not hearing it/nothing is going to happen he literally starts "to climb the wall". Deliciously mean and funny! Must have been great to see this played out on the stage.
As for "bleacher bums" thanks for your explanation. To understand better I would like to ask you what "bleachers" actually means in this respect.
Bleach makes me think of Chlorox, it whitens.

Bleachers is a term used to describe the raised, tiered stands found by sports fields or at other spectator events in the USA. Bleachers are long rows of benches, often consisting of alternating steps and seats.

I saw a live production of it in Chicago. Of course Mantegna wrote it about the Flubs. I saw the play back in early 2004 (just after the 03 meltdown :D) Joe Blowrowski was still their closer and the play was modified to have a few Bartman references thrown in. The Flubs are supposed to lose to the Cards on a grand slam hit by the outfielder they heckled (in this case Reggie Sanders).

I think it's obvious I'm a Sox fan given the delight I take in Flub losses.
