I got the impression they were walking for hours to get to Deptford. They leave their shelter in the morning, and by the time they reach Jim's parents' house it's late enough in the afternoon that they haven't got time to get back before dark, and have to spend the night there. I think there were also some deleted scenes that show the hike taking a lot longer, which were cut to speed the movie up.

A couple of better questions would be:

1) Why are they on foot? With the entire city of London abandoned or inhabited by crazies, they weren't able to find at least a few abandoned cars in working order, and service stations they could salvage gas from? Maybe most of the cars were taken or wrecked during the evacuation. But in a city with an estimated two and a half million cars on the road, there isn't one still sitting in a garage somewhere? Hell, they could have raided a bicycle shop and made the trip on mountain bikes. It would have been faster and easier than just hoofing it.

2) What the hell are Selena and Jim still doing in London? They said that things were crazy a few weeks earlier when everyone was trying to evacuate, but it's implied that they've been surviving in the abandoned city for a while now. You'd think they'd have at least tried to make their way out of town to find a safer place out in the countryside. Maybe they'd have died out there somewhere, and Jim would have been royally screwed, and God knows what would have happened to Frank and Hannah. But there's no way Jim and Selena could have predicted all that.

Yes indeed it is a bad edit ..maybe they just took a car ..but we see them walking all of a sudden...or they actually walked for miles and miles lol ...all in all such a great movie with amazing soundtracks ...cheers

2) In the city you have light and food. And in the sequel it's clear that the infected are all over the countryside and even in forests.

To be honest, walking from central London to Deptford wouldn't take THAT long, and perhaps they intentionally moved slowly so they could suss out the surroundings. It would have been easy to get trapped in a car, though it does present various advantages at the same time. There's also the possibility that none of them could drive (forgive me if I'm wrong but it's only Hannah's dad and Hannah herself seen driving the car at later points - never Jim or Selena).

Splitting hairs, to be honest. It doesn't really affect the storyline - they got there in one piece.

Not sure about that, but I just re-watched it today on Showtime. I recognized so many landmarks because I was in London in October 2016. It was so cool to see Westminster Bridge, Big Ben and The Eye again. When I saw the film the first time I didn't even notice The Eye in the background.
