When did you first get into Buckley/Grace?

I first started to get into his music when they were playing So Real on the radio it was the single from Grace, back in '97 or '96 can't remember when, but i didnt listen to the entire Grace album, i was too lazy, took me years to listen to it but then i loved it. i remember keeping some clippings from the paper of him going missing, then of course that his body was found, so sad.

It was a summer, can't remember the year. Maybe the year 2000. There was a radio programme everynight from 0.00 am till 3.00 am. People called and talked about their favourite films, novels, poetry and they asked for songs. A guy called absolutely mesmerized and they put Grace on the radio station. I'm sorry to admit that I didn't rush to get the CD. Maybe I just wasn't ready, then. But I remembered the name and above all the guy's fascination. A couple of years later, I was in a supermarket, a place where I would never buy a CD and there was Grace. I took it immediately. And then... Well, then I rushed to Amazon and bought everything.

1994 when I saw his video for "Last Goodbye" on 120 Minutes on MTV, back when they mattered in the music industry. I said to myself, "who is this guy? What a voice!". I went on to buy his CD and from top to bottom thought it was the best thing I heard in years. Fortunately I got to see him live at Roseland Ballroom in NYC opening up for of all people, Juliana Hatfield (terrible). He was so good, many people left after him or were only there for him, like me. He closed with "Hallelujah"...just him and his guitar. He had such emotion and went full out on every song. Man the guy could sing and he was also an accomplished guitarist. Paul McCartney was in the VIP section watching him perform. Jeff had respect amongst his "peers" in the industry. Didn't have the sales but who cared. He was fantastic! I'm still trying to find a singer/songwriter of his calibre but haven't found him/her. The closest thing I can find is Damien Rice who I love but he still doesn't hold a candle to Jeff.

I like how people are looking back and discovering his talent. It's never too late.

R.I.P. Jeff

That's amazing that you had a chance to see him daugiec. Unfortunatley, then I was only a few years old. I discovered him a few years ago from a friend who was obsessed with the O.C. or One Tree Hill, one of those and told me I had to listen to Hallelujah which was on one of those shows. I fell in love, it wasn't until a few months ago that I really started listening to all of his stuff. And now, he's my favorite singer. Absolutely stunning vocals, and his songs are heartbreaking.

I got into Jeff Buckley almost immediately after "Grace" came out in 1994. I was never into the grunge thing and saw his music as an alternative to the sound that was prominent at the time. I was also a big fan of Tim Buckley, so I had a head start with familiarity with that family.

I saw Jeff in concert a year or so before he died. Just an amazing performer who conjures up incredible sounds, like the spirits are speaking through him. Such a huge loss.
