Anoche fui a ver Iluminados por el fuego en el festival de Vancouver (Canada). Para mi fue muy buena, con una gran calidad fotografica y de produccion. Creo que el juicio sobre la pelicula depende de quien la ve. Para un extranjero no latino es probablemente una pelicula de guerra mas, sin mas significado que eso. Si bine las escenas de batalla son muy buenas y se muestra bien como eran las condiciones, la cosa no pasa de ahi.
Para los argentinos tiene otro significado, ya que es la primera vez que vemos una pelicula asi sobre Malvinas, una que no trata sobre la historia politica del conflicto sino sobre como lo vivieron los protagonistas forzados -y luego olvidados. Por eso me parace incorrecto enfocarse en criticar aspectos cinematrograficos o actorales. Eso es algo secundario. El objetivo de la pelicula es otro y lo cumple excelentemente.

Fue muy extraño ver una película asi aqui en Canadá. Si bien la gente aquí es mucho mas educada que en USA y tienen mas idea del tema Malvinas, uno sabes que ellos no estan viendo lo mismo que vos. El subtitulado en ingles no ayuda mucho, ya que se pierde muchos detalles que son importantes para entender la historia. Por ejemplo, no creo que a la gente aqui les haya quedado claro que los soldados eran conscriptos, lo cual es importante. Ademas los subtitulos ponian Falklands en lugar de Malvinas, cosa que no era necesaria porque en los anuncios de la peicula y en los comentarios de la critica se refieren a las islas como Malvinas. en fin, detalles.

..come on!..you may not think so but there are people interested in this film who don't speak Spanish(?)..and would like to know what others have to say about it..

I guess I disagree. It was stated several times in the film that they were conscripts (not the elite volunteer force) and that they wanted to go home.

Also, if the Vancouver audience could not figure out where the Malvinas was, it would have hit them like a tonne of bricks when the flight attendant announced they were arriving at Falklands-Malvinas Airport and it was a military base.

I think the writer/director made it clear without the need to go into the history of what happened. What they did was to make it clear that it was a war that the ground troops did not want, was not ready for and that the officers wanted with great zeal. What I liked about the platoon leader (the Sergeant) was that he acted like a brutish sergeant, but was not giving false hopes about how great this victory was (as opposed to the Lieutenant, who talked about how prepared they were, when the troops weren't even getting supplies).

In 1982, Canadians watched in horror as two technologically advanced allies were fighting each other in a war, and although some Anglophones supported the British, there were Latin Americans and Francophones who supported the Argentines in Canada, this war was unexpected.

Perhaps the war was too short, too long ago for Canadians, but as the film stated, the Argentine and British veterans on both sides of the conflict will never forget what happened there.

La película cumplió con su objetivo, pero eso no quiere decir que sea buena.
Simplemente toca un tema sensible para la sociedad argentina, eso le aseguro su éxito, nada más.
Como pelicula, deja bastante que desear. Las escenas bélicas estan muy mal filmadas y con pocos recursos, lo que le resta realismo a una pelicula en la cual las escenas bélicas (que es de lo que trata la pelicula) son esenciales para adentrarnos en la situación.
Personajes con los que uno no llega a conectarse.
Estructura del film a manera de flashbacks. No estoy en contra de esta estructura de "recuerdos". Pero hay que saber cómo filmarla, porque este ritmo puede resultar cansino para espectador si está mal filmado.

En fin, podría haber sido mucho más, pero las pretenciones de los productores, al parecer, como dice el post original era cumplir con su objetivo, un objetivo bastante fácil, y no hacer una buena película.

Just to be a little chauvinistic, the US has some of the best universities in the world because corporation with operations all over the world fund them so that students from all over the world can attend them. Sadly, there isn't a lot of room for mediocre US students, so they get bumped to community colleges, bible camps and the army. :)

Seriously, I really don't know. According to Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development Program for Student Assessment (OECD PISA) 2003 database, Canada and about twenty other countries outranks the United States.
