Does anybody like me absolutely LOVE this movie?

I really wasn't expecting Barbie In the Nutcracker to be as good as it was. Sure it isn't at all faithful to the beautiful story by ETA Hoffmann, but sometimes when a film is too faithful to its source material it doesn't always mean it is going to be good. I am 17(16 when I wrote my user comment and when I logged onto IMDB), and I adore this movie, I couldn't fault this at all. One question, why is the rating so low? Sure it is for kids, but believe me, adults will enjoy at least one aspect of the movie. Back to the film. The animation was just gorgeous, with stunning choreography in the pas de deux at the end. (I didn't notice any stiff movements really)Matching it perfectly was the phenomonal Tchaikovsky score. Anything wriiten by Tchaikovsky is a gem, I am a huge fan of ballet, symphony and opera and Tchaikovsky has made some outstanding contributions to all three. If you want another animated film with his music featured, check out Fantasia. The characters are also very sweet andlikeable. Clara and Eric are well written and well voiced by Kelly Sheridan and Kirby Morrow, and they made the most out of the dialogue. Tim Curry is probably the most well known actor in the film, and he did a splendid job with the voice of the Mouse King, and as he is one of my favourite actors(see him as Pennywise and Hexxus and you know what you mean) he was one of the many reasons why I still watch it. Pimm is also funny and memorable, and Major Mint and Captain Candy were hilarious. My favourites were "Here, why don't you invite him for tea and cakes while you're at it?" and "Captain Candy, You're forgetting that I am your superior!"(eye roll). I absolutely LOVE this film, and highly recommend it for young ballet lovers. Rapunzel and Swan Lake, both are very well done with an excellent voice cast, but Nutcracker will always be my favourite. (and not just because Tim Curry and Kirby Morrow are in it ^_^)
It's awesome.

Yes, it's definitely the best one along with Rapunzel and Swan Lake. Lately these days, the barbie movies coming out now have lost their touch.

Sas this on the tv a fre years back when Me and my mother was making Christmas candy and this happened to be on. I must say I was surprised at how good this was. Then the next year it turned into a small tradition when Rapunzel was on. However the year after that there wasn't any Barbie flick on and we soon forgot about it. Three years later I saw the princess and the pauper which was really bad. However I'm thinking about getting ahold of this one again since me and my mother still make christmas candy together every year. I was 16 when we saw the first one and now I am 25. And I am a guy. :)

Sounds like a great tradition. ❤️ You may like “Barbie’s A Christmas Carol”. It’s not as great as this one, but worth watching. 🎄

I agree with you. I think the first Barbie movies are great, and fun entertainment ^^

Not only do I love it (my daughter received the VHS for Christmas about fourteen years ago), but we’ve yet to find another version of “The Nutcracker” that we enjoy more. I even bought the dvd several years ago. We still watch it every December, and I’m “middle-aged” and she’s a high school senior. 😄

I remember hearing about Barbie And The Nutcracker when it was announced and the main reason why Barbie In The Nutcracker became the starter for an avalanche of movies in the Barbie series is a way for Mattel to sell Barbie dolls and toys and it seems that when you take a popular toyline Mattel makes a movie series out of it. Another example that Mattel used this success on was Monster High and whenever a new line of Monster High dolls would be released a movie would follow to help the dolls sell. And based on the success of Barbie In The Nutcracker Mattel used the same tactic with Barbie As Rapunzel and it helped Barbie As Rapunzel toys become hot toys for Christmas. The only big name actor that really helped the movie sell was Tim Curry and he was perfect in providing the voice of The Mouse King and that soon led to Mattel using big name actors for the villains in the Barbie movies such as Anjelica Huston Kelsey Grammer and Martin Short. Barbie In The Nutcracker is probably the only good movie of the series because after the first movies came out the quality of the Barbie movies have gone downhill and starting with replacing Kelly Sheridan with Diana Kaarina as the new Barbie voice actress you could tell that the Barbie series was downhill. But all and all this movie proved to be a start for a impressive series of Barbie movies
