My choice would be:
1.Swan Song: Really didn't see the final twist coming until very end.
2.Sleeper: A clever double-twist story with shocking ending! Suitable conclusion to 1st series.
3.Mercy: Another clever double-twist scheme.
4.Motive: We know whodunit but never know why until last. Also I like the character development of husband and wife in this episode.
5.Regrets: It really takes you into the point of view of the killer. Also like the who-in-prison-trick played by the writer.
Other episodes like 'Victim' 'Passion' 'Suicide' 'Vigilante' 'Landlord' are also among my favs. Usually episodes with twists are better than those simply focus on characters.

Good choices - I thought that Mercy was a superb episode with great acting. I also liked Suicide, Neighbours, Teacher, and Flashback was very cleverly done as well.

This was an excellent series! My favourites were motive and mercy.Brilliant suspense! suicide was good too, due to the wonderful Diana Rigg... Shame there isnt more on tv like this. I would suggest Collision also by Anthony Horrowitz, Tales of the unexpected, Accused by Jimmy Mcgovern and The last Weekend. All similar British series and available on dvd.
anyone else got any more recommendations?

I would strongly recommend Crime Traveller and Foyle's War.

I thought Victim was pretty scary. I remember liking the series, but it's the only episode that sticks out in my mind.

Passion, Echoes, Victim, Landlord. They were all brilliant.
