Why would these people be at a party together when they obviously hate each other?

Off course they are all in a conspiracy together to kill of Elizabeth but it riddles me why they were friends in the first place.
SPOILERS!
They used to be quite good friends, but Elizabeth, so Hell bent on getting Christian and to no longer be poor, used their sexual vices against them & blackmailed them for money. She was, however, sloppy and went herself to the P.O box, which she told them to send money to. Kate, Piper, Ben, and Adam told Christian, who was seeing Elizabeth about what she did, and the five conspired against Elizabeth to get her to admit to what she'd done. They came to Christian's house for that reason alone.
I just watched this last night and was wondering the same thing. It appeared that they didn't particularly like each other even in the first scene. There was a lot of tension and underlying resentment among the group from the get go. It's just weird that they'd lead us to believe that this group of people are supposed to be friends at any point.

I think they did like each other in the beginning...but it was only after Elizabeth blackmailed all of them and basically ruined their lives that they got pissy. Although I'm sure all of that was an act as well because they seemed fine with each other after it was revealed they weren't actually dead.
