Jackie Chan's latest movies

I think Jackie Chan should stop making all these crappy action comedy movies besides the rush hour movies. I want to see him back in the kung-fu action ones.

i'm sick of these stupid formulaic action movies..."The Tuxedo"..."The Medallion"...hey, i'm working on the script for his next project:

The WristWatch

it will be about an ordinary man, thrust into a world of action and intensity when he stumbles upon this mystical time piece, which grants its owner amazing powers...of course, all ranges of evil wish to get their hands on "The WristWatch" and Jackie will have to battle motorcycle gangs, mafia thugs, drug kingpins and international terrorists...or whatever steroetype bad guys are popular at the time of its release...

don't get me wrong, Jackie is an amazing talent, doing his own stunts and such...i just wish they'd get more creative with the vehicles they use to bring him to the screen...

Around the World in 80 Days is going to be really different for him, don't you think?

He plays Passepartout, the manservant to Phileas Fogg. Apparently in this movie his character is more the focus of the story because he gets top billing. Or he may just be the only big name in the cast.

Jackie's probably realized that he's getting a little long in the tooth to keep jumping off of buildings and onto hovercraft and stuff, and while virtually all of his Hong Kong movies are better than his Hollywood stuff, he probably got paid more to do "Rumble in the Bronx" than all of his Hong Kong movies combined. I'm not saying I think he sold out, but he probably has considerably less creative control over here. Unfortunately the only good Hollywood movies he's done are "Rush Hour" and "Shanghai Noon." The sequels to both were entertaining but obviously derivative. The key to all of those movies was that they were funny. When his movies play it straight and don't let him mug for the camera you see how limited an actor Jackie is in English. Jackie needs to move into roles where he doesn't have to perform insane stunts nonstop but can best use his gifts for physical comedy. It used to be that even his bad movies were entertaining, but now his bad movies are just bad.

I think he should produce a good hollywood movie with Nicholas Tse as the lead. anyone seen Gen-X Cops or Time and Tide? great movies.

he can act, he speaks perfect English, and he is a pretty boy so he can make them a lot of money. he can also do his own stunts.

the reason why I haven't been liking JC's recent movies is cause I think the hollywood people won't let him do his own stunts without stuntwires(which I hate). he has become to valuable to them.

reply

im not sure if everyone understands that jc (not jesus christ) is almost 50 years old. hes way too old to be trying the same life-risking stunts he used to pull. i would like to see him try to direct a few more movies. though im not sure howd they turn out. hes got a great mind for fight sequences but i think that modern day technology works against him. oh well. i have hope for his future.

true, it is a little dissappointing to see Jackie Chan do movies like the Tuxedo or even the Maedallion but like Tuneman said, he is getting close to 50. he cannot do another movie like Legend of Drunken Master, it night kill him him, or even worse, leave him immobile but living. And cmon, give him a break (he has broken himself far too many times). If anyone deserves the formulaic money making movie role, its Jackie Chan. He deserves it much more then lets say Ahnold Shwolenpeckeah or Vin Deisel (whos actual name is Mark Vincent). Not to mention that he is working with actresses like Jennifer Love Hewitt and Claire Forlani. Say what you want about their acting but you cannot deny that they are really freakin cute and were probably begging to be in a movie with Jackie Chan. And what guy can turn down a role that puts you along side these fine young things?

I have not seen The medallion yet (and no i havnt seen the Tuxedo and dont plan to. The initial concept is crap and the execution in the trailers wasnt much better.) However, compared to the Tuxedo, it seems like a huge improvement (in know tyhats not sayiong much but still). You hav his classic stunts like climbing tall fences and sliding down stuff (which is all him) and you have hints at fight scenes that look far better then all the fight scenes in Daredevil or any movie out right now (except for of course the Freddy vs Jason Fight which is as violent as it is fun to watch).

Let's face it, his acting career is practically over so he is taking as many well paid jobs as he can before he is forced behind the scenes/camera.

Don't get me wrong, I love his ealier HK films but have no desire to sit through the more recent drivel.

Yeah i dont get why people diss this movie already, i think it looks entertaining and isnt that why you would watch a Jackie Chan movie. I think the trailer looks great and I will watch this movie for sure. I also dont know why people hate wire work so much i think it looks great for the most part and can add a certain style to the moves that I think looks pretty cool

Jackie's movies just suck lately.

he needs to team up with Jet Li, make a hardcore, violent Rated R action film.

Jackie vs. Jet Li(the bad guy) - 10-15 ending fight

that is the type of movie Jackie needs to be right now!!!

I think these moviese started out as good ideas, but they are poorly executed. Tuxedo could have been great , but instead it was a huge disappointment. I have no interest in seeing the medallion (sorry jackie) even though I think Claire Forlani is underrated, but i will wait till video. chan needs to go back to doing action comedies like Drunken Master and Rumble in the Bronx, or even Mr. Nice Guy. Chan isn't as young as he used to be so maybe thats why he's taking on some of these special effects laiden projects. I heard he doesn't want to do a Rush Hour 3, but i hope he does if the script is right.

Remember that this movie (it was called "Highbinders" through most of the production) started shooting before the Tuxedo.

So if J C said that he was doing Highbinders/Medallion because he had never done anything with many special effects in before then I guess he meant what he said. (though he obviously forgot about "Double Dragon")

I thought since there are no US companies under production in the company credits that it wouldn't be wires and CG(like Tuxedo) but I was dissapointed when I saw the preview and it was all strings. I think he should get behind some of his no-names(in the US) and produce and direct movies for them. if you haven't seen Gen-X Cops than check it out. that kinda movie could work in english. most of the main cast speaks english already.

Well, I actually saw the movie there was one thing that really beiothered me with the use of wires. The trailers make it seem like the wire-stunts arent used until he gains his super powers which is all fine and good im my opinion becuase there is no better way to show superhuman capability then with wrie-work. However, this is not the case. Wire work is used before Jackie Chans gains his superpowers which makes no sense really becuase most of the stunts that he used the wires for, he has done time and time again without wires that were far more difficult. that is what bugged me about the movie. After he gains his super powers though, thats when the wire-work and special effects get really crazy and at that point you will either love it or hate it. What I liked about the fight scenes that hapened when Jackie gained his powers is that they seemed to use every single trick in the book without using CGI people. In fact, there is not really alot of CGI used. Most of the super powers are accomplished through wire-work, speeded up film, as well as other old school tricks. About the most impressive special effects displays would be when dead bodies turn into dust and when Jackies friend stabs him again and again when Jackie tells him that he cant die or be hurt (that was also one of the funnier moments in the movie).

reply

CGI was used extensively to remove the wires and harnesses.

reply

Agreed, we need more stuff like Legend of the Drunken Master, that was an outstanding film

reply

Yeah, we do... but Jackie Chan is waaay too old for that now. 10 years in your middle age make a huge difference.
