Jackie's scream

((SPOILERS WARNING! ... as if for this movie you'd even care...))

Ok... During the fight scene in the woods, where Jackie is fighting the villian and they're both super powered, Jackie at one point gets hit and lets out this amazing scream. It's like, "YYYYEEEEEAAAAAAGGGHHHHH!!!!". Then, at the end of the movie when the villian is being torn apart by the medallion he lets out the SAME EXACT SCREAM. i swear. and what's more, i KNOW that i have heard this scream somewhere else... i just can't place it. i'm thinking maybe the video game "Turok the Dinosaur Hunter", when Turok falls off the edge of a cliff, but i'm not positive since i haven't played it in a while.

this may sound bizarre, but i'm genuinley curious. if you have any information or thoughts about this mysterious scream, its origins, or why on earth they would use it twice in one movie, please let me know.

Yah, actually if you notice, a lot of movies have the same sounds or like sounds that you think you heard of before. For example, those whoosing doors in those sci fi movies, those laser shots or like screams. The reason for this is that there is this huge sound library out theere where the movie people take to use in their movie, whether to "enhance" the sound or cause theyre just plain lazy. This sound library can be gotten by anyone really. Gamemakes, amateur movie makers, etc etc so yah, its really weird to hear something you CLEARLY know you heard before. Its like recycled sound...pretty weird if you ask me. so i hope this clears up your question. lol i was once so bugged out by it too like you, it felt so much better after i found out about it though.

Yes, I have heard that scream in video games, cheesy movies, mountain dew commercials, and on and on. Twice in the same movie though? Sick.

reply

whoosing doors sound is from the game "UFO: Enemy Unknown". Its sooo lame to use that sound in every third grade sf movie.

reply

They also use the same sound in every tv show or movie with punches and kicks FOR punches and kicks.

Yeah it's what you could call a 'canned scream'. It's actually been around for decades and decades. I'm not sure exactly where it first originated from, but that particular sound has been in countless movies and cartoons. It's like the default scream in movies, especially ones more than 30 years old.

Completely out of place here, and just added to the silly-ness of the film, so I dont know why they'd do that. This whole movie just wasnt very well made, IMO. Jackie was fine, as always, but this movie was made into a children's flick that'd probably keep your average 9 year old happy.

The scream was also used in "Broken Arrow" with John Travolta and Christian Slater. It is heard when Slater kicks one of Travolta's henchmen (Howie Long) and knocks him off a train on a very high bridge. Howie screams all the way down.

Haven't seen the movie, but I think I might know that scream. Is it also in the opening credits of 'AH! Real Monsters!'? I know I've heard it elsewhere. That scream is getting a bit boring.

MORMONUS: I may look dumb, but I'm not as smart as I look...wait...

you know, now that i think about it i think that the Academy building in Starcraft was where i remembered the screm from most. it's so ridiculous that they used it twice within the space of about an hour in this movie. how cheesy can you get?

reply

Man, you know, people might have seen the medallion, and read here, but how are you two above this post going to rampantly try and spoil stuff in Broken Arrow and Basketball diaries?
Rediculous.

If you keep an hear out, MeltManX is quite right, 007 sounds appear all over the place, espeically it's distinctive alarm sound. I forget which one it was (I'm thinking Sword Fish), but a movie I saw recently had that old Half Life "Door opening" sound. Both me and my bro just looked at each other ^_^

Haha, I am watching the movie right now and just paused it right after the scream. God I have heard that scream in about 1000 other things. Im preety sure I remember it most from Mortal Kombat 3 haha. Im really laughing right now though from it...everytime I hear it I crack up

reply

Nope, the Wilhelm scream always sounds exactly the same... for a good example listen to the stormtrooper falling off the platform after being shot in Star Wars IV

LoM, i played that game when it was released, and i do own the sound track from LoM, but i havent got the chance to compare any songs yet, i my brain doesn't seem to react when i see the movie, but maybie you are right, it may be the same, but if it is the same, they problably have payed Square-enix for borrowing the song. cuase square soft owns the copyright of those songs, cuase they produced them.
