questions

This movie was okay. I have a few questions.

Why did Francios try to hide his religion? I get that he wasn't very religious, but he grew up Jewish and seemed to be ashamed of it. Why did he flip out when Michele gave him the thing to hang on his door (sorry, I forget the name. It started with an M and was part of the Jewish faith).

Why did they break up? Francios said that Michele didn't drive his mother home one night. Michele said she offered, but his mother refused. Francios said his mother said she never offered. He was angry she had to go home alone in the cold at night and Michele said it was only 4 oclock that she's a big girl and it wasn't that cold. What I don't understand is why would Michele lie about offering her a ride? Why wouldn't she want to drive his mother home? She liked his mother. He accused her of not caring about anyone else's problems, but expected everyone to care about hers. Then he said he couldn't touch her without feeling sick. After they kissed, he practically gagged. So my question is what exactly happened during the fight that caused the breakup and how did he go from being sick just looking at her to wanting her back by the end of the movie?

I think this movie was pretty realistic as far as relationshps go. Maybe it's not clear cut why they broke up, it never is. But that scene felt so weird. I didn't know what was going on, why they were acting that way. Could someone explain it?

"Why did Francios try to hide his religion? I get that he wasn't very religious, but he grew up Jewish and seemed to be ashamed of it. Why did he flip out when Michele gave him the thing to hang on his door"

Because like many other places in the world, France has a lot of anti-semitism. So when she hangs the mezuzah on the door she is basically advertising "Jews live here". And given France's as well as his history, there is a lot of issues in putting it up.

"Why did they break up?"

It's been a long time since I've seen this movie, but I remember smirking when they broke up because I remember thinking that Michele shoved Judaism down his throat so much that the Jewish guilt set in and he decided to date a real Jew! So that's my theory why they broke up, which makes it really funny! But I think the joke should have translated better. The director might have even totally missed it for all I know! But I couldn't help but see it given my personal experience.
