Do any of the guests get mad at Glick during the interview?

I just saw one with Conan O'brien and he stormed off in the middle of the interview. I also saw one where Seinfeld just ripped into him for being fat and obnoxious. Do they know what they're getting into when they agree to do the show?

I think it's scripted... don't quote me on that, but I am pretty sure. It seems more like a spoof on late night shows than anything.

Little Red: A wolf and a person aren't the same thing.
Witch: Ask a wolf's mother.

Ice Cube seemed to get pretty mad during his interview when Martin kept calling him "Vanilla Ice"

reply

Both Conan and Seinfeld are very well aware it's not for real. Short has appeared on Conan's show, talking about Glick, for one thing.

reply

Yea since it is Martin Short under all that costume, i really think that the actors or people who are being interviewed on that show are just acting, But at the same time i mean im not really sure, cause they might not be, but sometimes the reactions of some of the people who are on there seem fake, like its a rehearsed reaction or something. I donno, dont quote me on anything here, im just guessing.

reply

Attention all rubes! Each and every celebrity who appears on Primetime Glick is without a doubt absolutely 100% in on the gag. Anyone who is gullible to even consider otherwise must be a complet dimwit. Half the time the celebrity guests can hardly contain their laughter at Short's improvisations. They all know it's Short and they are buddies with him. Ice Cube was in no way seriously angry about the Vanilla Ice references. By the way, kman, I hope you're yankin' everyone's chain when you post that "it is Steve Martin under all that costume".

reply

I just think he got the names mixed up

reply

it's martain short not steve martain u ass

reply

Yeah, my bad. Donno wat i was thinkin there.

reply

I do! Three Amigos - Steve Martin, Martin Short, Chevy Chase.

I read Tom Green's autobiography and in it he wrote that he was on the show and ended up just walking out on the interview because Martin Short was pissing him off. It never aired because he never signed a release or something.

I know there's plenty of reasons not to believe Tom Green but in his autobiography he is pretty honest.

The guests on the show knew they were being interviewed by Short/Glick, and they are given a slight heads up of what could happen, but what they talk about is almost completely real, it just moves in a designed path until the interview is over.

That's why Jeneane (sp?) Garofalo's interview was the funniest... she couldn't stop laughing.

"But I can't, sir. Not everybody has a tongue like yours."

I'd heard Tom Green did an interview but it never aired. Apparently Green got pissed and walked out. I'd love to see that. LOL

reply

haha, wow, tom green upset that someone was exploiting him while in an obnoxious character, in order to be put on a show. Hmm, that formula sounds familiar.

I gotta say too, I agree with that guy on this post who mentioned ron burgandy and jiminy glick interacting. I'd love to see those two compete to be first for some interview. Would make for a great skit.

But as for the post question, I heard martin short say on a talk show that yes, some people have gotten mad or felt insulted and walked out or just acted hostile. But he didn't go into any detail or mention any names. He also said that most seem to have a decent time with it. They all know it's martin short, and by the first few episides, anyone of them who had seen it, knew he was insulting and sometimes mean. But, still, you can be taken by surprise if someone just up and tells you in front of a national audience that you have a big nose, or you're fat or a bad actor or something, so I guess it makes sense that a few people got angry. Boy, I wonder besides Tom Green who got upset.

Tom Green was vaguely in on the gag and got the concept of the show, but this was right after his cancer, and Glick said something like "What's it like to have one ball?" and then pretended to ignore his answer. He also said something like "Oh, so you do THAT kind of humor," and Green says he thinks Martin Short truly didn't like him, but the cancer joke was what pushed him over the edge. He sat quietly through the rest of the interview and stormed off after. They couldn't use the interview.

reply

its scripted to a degree, but Martin Short is known for adlibbing and for improvisation. Ever watch the outtakes? they are hysterical because the interviewees are rolling on the foor...shame on Martin Short for using the one testicle gag

reply

Tom Hanks didn't look too happy when short stuffed that cupcake into his mouth for that one interview. I don't know if that was scripted or not.

reply

keep in mind that tom green had an episode of his own show where he was making fun of his cancer while he was still in the hospital. and showing glen his extracted ball. not only is he famous for not respecting other peoples limits and personal space, but he himself made fun of the cancer. so in that context, I wouldn't say shame on martin short. but still that sounds pretty tasteless, even for a 'character' to be saying to a guest.
hopefully, if nothing else, it taught tom green a lesson on reguarding other peoples privacy and emotions.

reply

They're pretending.

reply

Its "mostly" improv on martin shorts end, but the guests have an idea of what theyre about to get into.

I just got done listening to the audiobook (read by Mr. Short himself which is why i chose to listen to it as opposed to reading it) and he talks a lot about Jiminy. He recalled in the interview with Alec Baldwin that going through the list of women he had slept with was Alec's idea. Its all fake and all in good fun!
