I finally got to see this..

I had so far seen two films from this director, Innocence (1997) and Destiny (2006). These are Turkish films unlike most I had seen, and I found them fascinating. Especially the latter was more refined, but both had a raw realism that is rare (at least in my experience).

This one also had much of that raw gritty feel, but there was something quite odd about the way people acted.

I wonder if that is the influence of The Stranger by Albert Camus, which is apparently the inspiration for this. I have not read that (I did attempt to read a few pages of the original French but my French was not near the level to attempt this). It is clear to see the existentialist

Either way, I was captivated by this movie and the odd nature of the main character. I plan to watch more films by Zeki Demirkubuz.

I accidentally deleted another post I made on this board, this movie is in Turkish, but you can find english subs on opensubtitles dot org - although they are mostly accurate and well sync-ed, a few things do not translate the feeling of the authentic language.
