How's "Rain"?

Rain sounds like a simply remarkable film, but unfortunatley I live in a small town that all-around does not support independent film. So I, as usual, have to resort to ordering this film. So I am asking, before I place my order, how'd you like "Rain"? Is it the low-key, magical and dark coming of age film it reached out to me as?

It is my favourite movie of all time. Amazing actors, amazing music, amazing cimematography.

I saw the movie in the theatres and bought it on DVD the minute it came out.

Thanks, I really appreciate that message... sometimes I order movies and get really disappointed.

Oh, you HAVE to order it! It's really sad, so if you like sad movies you can cry to, you'll probably like this. I'm very emotional, so I was pretty much bawling with my friend, and my OTHER friend looking at us strangely. I think It may have more of an impact if you have a little brother...perhaps sister. I reckon you can relate to the annoying-ness they can cause you ...dot...dot...dot... :D Anyway...I think I consider this a definate favourite. I was thinking of starting a fansite. I wanted to get it on DVD, but my dad despises this movie, because he hates these types of movies (he's not the emotional movie liking person). Therefore I can't get it, because my dad'll go nuts (he seems to think it might be a bad influence). Anyway, I'll let you go and order Rain now...*makes shooing motions* Go! FInd a copy of 'Rain', and please enjoy it!
I sure did. It stays with you for ages...well it did so with me.

PS. I agree with the above...the cast was amazing, the cinematography, etc. I think it was very realistic, especially one scene...I'll tell you which once you watch it.

Oh..and one more thing. :P
It definitely appealed to me for the same reasons, and I was not disappointed. It was "the low-key, magical and dark coming of age film" that I saw it as. I love the songs as well- really match the mood.

I've seen mixed reactions to this movie. My sister and I really appreciated the cinematography, the little jokes, the characters, the music. However, my mother didn't like the film. She felt it rewarded hedonism because those who indulged themselves were okay in the end and those who were innocent of such behavior.. well no spoilers. I think she missed the point. If you listen to the lyrics of Lisa Germano's song Cry Wolf which plays at the end when Janey is running on the beach, it says "she didn't know she didn't want it" and things of that effect. It took a tragedy for her to realize what was important.

Anywho, whether you end up liking the message or not, I think it's worth it to give this movie a shot based on the sheer art of it and the soundtrack alone.

4 years after and still it's my favorite movie of all time.

The movie sucked. They could of gone farther with it, but didn't.

It just sucked sucked sucked. It could of been better. I was hoping it would be great since the trailer looked pretty interesting.

A New Zealand film with an $1.8 million budget- study film and you'll realise that's not much at all. You do what you can with what you have.

reply

It's okay but expected much more of it. In fact it is a disappointment. Particularly the ending is crap and mood-swinging.

reply

Seriously one of the worst films I've ever seen, including Gummo.

reply

What did the characters do for jobs? They looked like a bunch of Auckland writers to me.

reply

Actually 'Rain' is a bloody awful movie in my opinion. It is a soundtrack with some pretty people getting up to some small amount of mischief, followed by an overwrought emotional scene that left me completely uninvolved.

has anyone read the book

i just finnished it

very sad

her other book is even more depressing

havent seen the movie

can anyone compare

reply

I have read the book, I enjoyed the film although it is flawed and i agree with both some of the positive and negative comments on here, the book however has become one of my favourites its just beautiful and i would strongly recommend it to anyone.

I bought the movie four years ago and ive seen it a few times since my original post.

I thought it was very good because it is very rich if you read into the subtexts. I'll admit I wanted a little more from the end, but it was an undeniably beautiful visual representation of the loss of innocence.

I'd give it ***1/2 out of 4

I don't mean to impose, but I am the ocean.
