Another one...

Another one of the Pro-American movies, which demonizes Germans and puts down other nations, especially Polish nation (42nd minute of the movie). Disgusting from political point of view.

What's your point here dip-stick?

reply

I have seen this movie a few times and I can not recall it demonizing germans

reply

yeah! besides, you *beep* did a pretty good job of demonizing yourselves.. it was called 'the Holocaust'. remember? oh wait... stalin's made hitler look like a boy scout, but that's ok because he was on OUR side.

reply

lol... the guy who commented on the Holocaust is a retard, because this movie has absolutely nothing to do with the holocaust, or anything WWII & Post-WWII. Good game.

Mates for the team.

Well, the americans are such saints!!! Hiroshima/Nagasaki, Vietnam, Iraq, and you name it.... But it all depends on who's telling the story and whos most effective at that. Must admit, the americans are pretty good at that!

reply

Being a history teacher that uses this film every semester I couldn't disagree more about the demonizing Germans part of the original post. My kids actually feel sorry for the Germans, time in and time out. They mostly feel that the Germans were honorable in how they treated our prisoners, and were only doing their duty out in the field of battle. So I'm not sure where that comment came from, but it couldn't be further from the truth.

reply

What are you using this movie for as a history teacher? Preparing the kids to sign up for being Bush´s cannon fodder? You should show them "All quiet on the western front" or "Stalingrad" instead.

reply

.....and you wasted it attacking a very well-done historically accurate film.

>>>And why ouldn't it be pro-american?? its a movie about an american army infantry battalion, deep in enemy territory, it' not a movie on the large battle, it's a movie "About" the Americans , not "About" the Germans. Politcally? keep politics out of the incident, politics is what has caused every war, and there are always those who are for it, those against, and those in between, even the American Revlution had only about 40% in favor of the war, most where "torries". as in WWI, and America getting involved, dig out old papers, it's the same arguements as today? Why are we there? same in WWII, read the papers. MOvies are just a point of view, just as this reply is. nuff said

Are you actually this clueless?

The story is about an American Infantry Battalion. What did you honestly expect from this movie?

It does NOT demonize the Germans. In fact, it shows a lot of respect, compassion, and professionalism by the Germans.

As for the comment about the "Polish nation" you might want to provide specific quotes or descriptions about what happened at that point in the movie. Otherwise, your argument becomes merely a whiny complaint.

This was a poorly written post.

That's my humble opinion

Seeing as how the 'Polish Nation' was part of Russia at that time. And if by political, you mean the attitudes of the New York boys...well, thats just how some people are. What many fail to realize is that just because it says United States, dosen't mean that everyone is the same.
I agree with mostly everyone else. The film does not demonize anyone. The idea that armies could still have chivalry and honor within the inhumane borders of combat was still common but would come to a halt.
What other nations were put down? No where do I see such evidence.
It appears the origional comment was made on a severe hatred of the United States due to 'current events' rather than the true subject.
If that is what this world is comming to, then may heaven help us all.

You must not realize this movie is based on a true story, and is relatively accurate to the events.

What the soldiers said in the movie was very much what they were saying in real life. There was tremendous anti-German sentiment during WWI. I am currently researching the Lost Battalion and have found little substantial inaccuracy from the film thus far.

As for demonizing Germans, wrong! It did not demonize the Germans. It showed, relatively accurately, what the Germans did to try and dislodge the Americans of the Lost Battalion. In fact, the Germans were shown as being compassionate in wanting to save as many lives as possible (the surrender request) and the dying German who wanted to keep his satchel, because he was still alive, yet dying. Germans were not shown as ruthless monsters. If they had been, they wouldn't have portrayed the relative hospitality to the Leiutenant and the messenger upon their captures. Yes, the Germans' battle tactics were ruthless, but war is ruthless. They were fighting to survive, just like the Americans. Germany knew those Americans being there posed a threat to the entire German front.

Yes, the movie celebrates American bravery. It's supposed to. The men of the Lost Battalion fought valiantly just to survive the German onslaught over those 5 days.

i agree with the posters above..the movie DOES NOT demonize germans they treated the prisoners well they wanted simply to end that battle without taking too many lives..the dying german wanted to keep his bread (he says mein brot brot = bread)..but i think that the most compassionate part is when the germans bring the prisoner back and they shake hands saying goodbye comrade/aufwiedersen camarade..i think that WW1 was the last of the "glorious" wars fought, with honour and respect from both sides..oh and by the way the germans knew they were going to lose so late in the war

reply

this kinda thing gets so old. no matter what war or what the story is somebody gets all uppidy because it didnt include their country, or they interpret some part as a GLARING insult to their nationality. come on people! its not like hollywood is the U.N. does anybody else notice striking parallels between..and i hate to generalize it...europeans complaining over these movies slighting them and the europian allies saying patton slighted them in ww2? this one wasnt as bad, although i find it humorous that every ww1 or ww2 movie you always have someone saying it demonizes germans or japanese...well they're the enemy..the villians. its history, its not in most cases made up. i'm suprised there arent more "this movie didnt include (insert nation here) they actually one the war because (insert out of context facts here). now, im not saying americans won both wars solo...far from it, all i'm saying is all of these countries have access to cameras...make a movie about your contributions if you want to see it so badly.

i agree with "Another one of the Pro-American movies", whenever i see the description "Americans" and "war X" i get sick to the stomach, these kind of movies have been done over and over and over[...] and over again, just like zombie movies, serial killer movies and others...feel free to get mad nationalists
