Didn't expect that

ok... I didn't expect that... went into this movie not knowing anything about it...

wow...

Didn't expect it to take the turns it did... for it to go there... but I thought it was a good study on obsession, desire and stunted emotional development.

Interesting also that SPOILERS...

Yeah, it wasn't outright saying that Beningo was in any way "correct" in his actions and we were not meant to think of his overall in a positive light but...

The film didn't make him an outright "total villain" either and even allowed us to get behind him or study and question him without totally demonizing him either.

Although also SPOILERS - he does face comeuppance for it, but just not in ways we have gotten used to.

I suppose as terrible and no doubt wrong as his act was, the movie wanted for us to think that he is a disturbed, highly flawed, immoral etc but still human and not a total monster.

And although she still was a victim from him, the movie doesn't show the woman as total damaged goods or even a "heroine" who would or should seek vengeance and we may even feel or think that she may recover from it besides its slightly less than usual "other angle" from it. As disturbing and wrong as it still was overall though no doubt.

Yeah, a very polarizing, strange and confronting movie this one. Makes us think too. :)

What does this ALSO say...

About our human nature? About law? About sexuality? About good and evil in humanity? About disturbed people? About morality? About why we look at different issues in life DIFFERENTLY including different forms of violence and wrongdoing? And why there are stronger debates and elements of controversy if a sexual element is added to a mix?

About people feeling guilt? Or some form of crazy love to drive them to suicide? (On the latter, LOL, despite the seriousness of the subject, SPOILERS - some people wrongly assumed he committed suicide because he did not like the fact that he was called out on the wrongness of his action? If only most "perpetrators of such deed" really did that BECAUSE of that, imagine how fewer instances of such a deed there could be in our world?) About patients in a coma? Bullfighting? Etc?
