Disappointed
Being a fan of Diane Keaton is what drew me to this movie I'd never seen. The actor who played her husband was the one who made me feel it, not Keaton, and that's the first time I've not been sold or moved by Keaton. Leigh shined now and then, but mumbled too often in the first half. The husband of the deceased wife, I could also believe. Something must have been playing an undercurrent in Keaton's life at the time it was made, because she was off. Leigh's last scene was even better than Keaton's. I was shocked.
Though Keaton was portraying a writer whom she may have met and studied, the simplistic premise that an obsession about death is what sparked her interest wasn't believable. Maybe her real life character was shocked that a young, attractive woman was sentenced, and she grabbed it to help her get over her son.
I may have missed key lines with Leigh mumbling, but I'd never watch this movie again.
