Disappointed

Being a fan of Diane Keaton is what drew me to this movie I'd never seen. The actor who played her husband was the one who made me feel it, not Keaton, and that's the first time I've not been sold or moved by Keaton. Leigh shined now and then, but mumbled too often in the first half. The husband of the deceased wife, I could also believe. Something must have been playing an undercurrent in Keaton's life at the time it was made, because she was off. Leigh's last scene was even better than Keaton's. I was shocked.

Though Keaton was portraying a writer whom she may have met and studied, the simplistic premise that an obsession about death is what sparked her interest wasn't believable. Maybe her real life character was shocked that a young, attractive woman was sentenced, and she grabbed it to help her get over her son.

I may have missed key lines with Leigh mumbling, but I'd never watch this movie again.

Yeah. Just watched it on Netflix stream. Like you I was drawn by the cast, even though it is a made for tv movie.

Also, checked the wiki-entry for Karla Faye Tucker. This movie made it seem Garrett (the man with Tucker at the time of the killings) came back and killed the woman. According to wiki - "Tucker was once again left in the room and only then noticed a woman who had hidden under the bed covers against the wall. The woman, Deborah Thornton, had met Dean at a party earlier that afternoon. Upon discovering Thornton, Tucker grazed her shoulder with the pickaxe. Thornton and Tucker began to struggle, but Garrett returned and separated them. Tucker proceeded to hit Thornton repeatedly with the pickaxe and then embedded the axe in her heart. Tucker would later tell friends and testify that she experienced intense multiple orgasms with each blow of the pickaxe."

Would having Tucker kill the woman alone, rather than getting shushed out of the room while Garrett killed the woman, make Tucker seem too monstrous?

Pretty bad movie.

I remember this woman when she was being interviewed by Larry King while on death row. She was ultimately executed and if what she did is true, she deserved to be. I saw the movie awhile ago and just remember not liking it very much. Jennifer Jason Leigh always mumbles in her movies. Why she's an actress, I'll never know.

If you have any doubt about Jennifer Jason Leigh's acting ability, you should definitely watch Georgia (1995) and the more recent Hateful Eight.

I like movies made from Steven King's books, and I do like her in Delores Clairborne, although at times she mumbles in that one too. I haven't seen the other two movies you mentioned, but I may do so. Thanks for mentioning them.

Of course! I can see why some could be turned off from her mumbling. But she doesn't do too much mumbling in the ones I've mentioned. I hope you get to watch them, she's my favorite actress.

Thanks for having an open mind.
