Alan Colmes is intellectually weak?

Yes, of course he is.

But cut him some slack--he's a liberal. It's essentially impossible to sound like a towering intellect when you're regurgitating socialist class-envy tripe that hasn't been defensible since Ike carried his own golf clubs.

Actually Colmes makes great arguments on his radio show and probably could on the tv show if Hannity wasn't busy making sure the usual conservative guests like Oliver North, Ann Coulter, and Dick Morris have a safe non-threating place to make their Republican talking points.
Hannity is the weak one. He debates issues like a stubborn 5 year old with no ability for analytical reasoning. He just spreads deliberate misqoutes and insults the intellingence of anyone who really knows the news (i.e. not a Fox fan).

Colmes is perceived as the weak one because he doesn't blindly follow the liberal party line. He speaks his own mind. He doesn't bother using inflammatory rhetoric, nor does he bring on far-left wackjobs — the ones who make our side look idiotic — as his guests.

By contrast, Hannity regurgitates the same lines ("emboldening our enemies," "undermining our troops," etc., etc.) over and over, almost on autopilot.

Well, you know what, i'm a conservative, i don't think Colmes is unintelligent...he's spouting the liberal stuff that is out there...he's much smarter than that and sometimes he "by accident" comes out of his shell (it's very rare) and actually thinks for himself...not stupid though, just manipulated and filling a role...

He sounds like an idiot because he bows down to Hannitys Ego every time, which is how the Fox network wants it. Would Rupert Murdoch have it any other way? I've never seen such bias in all my life.

reply

Hilarious how everyone feels the need to be either "liberal" or "conservative".

reply

Ummm.. Colmes isn't a liberal. Never has been. Before he was on Hannity and Colmes he was a registered Republican.
The supposed "debates" they have are as real as professional wrestling.

BS. If you are truly dedicated to your party, you won't even pretend to switch ends of the spectrum. I would be humiliated if I had to pretend to be liberal.

Well you've obviously never taken a debate class. The whole point of good debating skills is the ability to internalize the opposing side of an argument and argue it well. Only the best debaters are able to do that though. Most "average" ones are too caught up in their personal emotional biases to actually debate the facts for the opposing argument in a passionate way.

I once had the honor of listening to James Carville play "Devils Advocate" by imitating a conservative when he was debating a liberal debate student and James totally dissected the students well-researched arguments calmly and methodically and threw them back at him. It wasn't hard for him simply because he's sooooo well aware of the conservative talking points and the best arguments they have at their disposal to make their cases understood.

Likewise, some of the best LIBERAL debaters I've ever heard were also conservatives who were playing "devils advocate" as well. Using the best liberal ideas that they have heard that stump their own conservative talking points, and applied them to the specific point that they had to make in the context of that debate.

I'd like to see some proof that Colmes was ever a Republican. That guy is the very embodiment of liberalism!

reply

it's not that he's weak. It's that he's not loud enough. He's not obnoxious enough. Hannity & Maher or Hannity & Franken would actually be worth watching!
