Different genre than I expected.

I expected this movie to be more of a thriller and maybe even a horror, but it turned out to be a dark period piece drama.

Same here. I guess I was "hoping" it was going to be a horror.

I found the acting quite good and the nudity was appropriate to the scenes but overall it was kind of blah.

** SPOILER **

For someone who was supposed to be mad, she sure did regain control quickly near the end when she gets married. It didn't seem to fit right.

Too bad, the idea sounded great.

If you want a film similar to this but is definitely horror, check out "Ravenous".

reply

It might not have fit because it wasn't in the original story.
I read some review somewhere that the true ending in the book is not as happy(?) as in the movie.

And the movie's ending was rather bittersweet, in my opinion.

Just in case you're reading this board and trying to decide if you want to watch this film, I'd take the above message with a grain of salt. The interesting question the film considers is indicated in the title. Annie may or may not be "mad." Where does the madness reside? Keep your mind open to questions about where truth and memory intersect. Read the Alice Munro story.

I expected something a bit more thriller like from the description on Netflix. The description here on IMDb is better. But, when you think of the 'murder mystery' side of the plot, I suppose 'thriller' is the correct label.

As for Annie being mad, personally I felt Simon's brother George was more the mad one. He lost it after his brother's death. He couldn't handle the guilt and the pressure of having to be the strong supporter for the two of them.

"I'm trying to see things from your point of view but I cant stick my head that far up my ass."

It's one of those rare films where a slow psychological thriller burn works.
