bad casting

Rachel Leigh Cook cannot...I repeat CANNOT...play a badass. She can be hot, she can play a sexy woman, but she cannot play a badass. End of story. Hated her in this movie.

You may have a point - but she was HOT in this movie!

I'm not sure that was the point. I think she was actually pretty funny.

I agree with you dennisrafkin. Rachel Leigh Cook cannot play a badass. The only part of the cast that I think they casted right were Stu and Max. They were comedy, they made me laugh all the time.

she didn't seem like she was supposed to be playing a badass,
more like a dorky RPG girl, which she pulls off pretty well

It's crazy that people don't get that. She was perfect in that role.

reply

Exactly. What did she do that was badass? Not a damn thing that's what.

If her character were a badass, she wouldn't have to imagine herself as Xena.

Yeah, Shmally was a slacker/gamer girl. She may be trying to act like she's tough, and want to be tough, but she clearly isn't, and like jms22 said, that lead to the fantasy of badassery where she has the ability to punish those who abusing the moderate amount of power they wield.

Seven years since the original post, but....

She isn't supposed to be a badass. It's the "Walter Mitty" syndrome.

You have a geeky gamer girl that wants to be her game character. Her scenes in the costume is how she sees herself wanting to face obstacles and pressure, not the way she really is.

I don't know your age or experience, but I'd suggest researching "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty." Go for the 1947 version with Danny Kaye, though I also understand it is going through a remake.

Proudly defending films older than Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, and Miley Cyrus.
