Wish it was 2001

Honestly, I'd heard about this recently and when I read the mini synopsis, I felt that it sounded dated. That is an understatement. It's also painfully simplistic. I'm all for metaphors, but if you use them, it's because you don't want to spell it out for the viewer. This does both and does nothing, but add another 40 minutes onto an already lethargic pace. The one saving grace is likable, if not odd characters. They are all young, good looking and remind us of our young selves.

Where the film fails miserably, is that the two plots collision course is anticlimactic and therefore there was no real point in it. The final scene and following music is an absolute sellout of what has been going on. I read that is from a book, so I'm assuming the book delved deeper into the characters everyday life, which was actually the only clever moments in the film, but was probably overlooked by most.

I think if I'd seen this at the time of internet chat rooms, I'd have been more impressed with it as a futuristic vision, but looking back, it comes off as silly.
