It's a fascinating film for sure, and I personally enjoy it significantly more than Marvel's own 2008 Incredible Hulk (don't get me wrong, I enjoy that film, but I just prefer this)... but that being said, I can understand why many don't like it.
It's a strangely cerebral "art-house" take on a classic comic character. It's just not the film a lot of people expected or wanted. It's clear Ang Lee wanted to make something more provocative and complex, but it just didn't jive well with the Hulk character for many audiences.
It's a very "out there" film that puts it focus more on what makes Bruce/Hulk tick than on the Hulk himself.
But I appreciate Lee's attempts at telling the story he wanted to tell, the stunningly beautiful direction and imagery, the magnificent score (one of Elfman's most underrated gems) and the pure creativity of the project. Some (perhaps many) might consider it a bit of a "failure" for not connecting to audiences the way other superhero movies do... But if it is a "failure", then it's certainly an interesting, intriguing and gorgeous one.
And FURTHERMORE, this is my signature! SERIOUSLY! Did you think I was still talking about my point?
