Question about the movie

So I saw the beginning and I saw the end, but I missed most of the rest. I just want to know exactly what the old people were doing and why all those bodies were in the dumpster in the end. I feel really dumb because I have no real interest in the movie, but for some odd reason I feel the need to know exactly what was going on in the building. If anyone can help I would appreciate it. Thanks

The old people living there tapped some kind of energy from the young peoples blood( to keep themselves young) and killed them. Matt and his wife escaped at the end and the old people were put in jail...

reply

The girl that was jogging with Dean Cain, was she working for the old people? Did they kill her too?

reply

Their energy tap thing didn't work.... we all still see them as old people.... unless they are like 120 yrs old and only look 90... Would have made more sense if they cast younger sinister people.. But Barney Miller is still cool! can't knock him! Rosemary's Baby is similar and a lil better if ya like this style and haven't seen it...

reply

That bugged me to but yeah some of them were over a hundred. I guess it only kept them at the age they were at when they started this thing. Still that one guy had black hair in his internet picture. I think you're right in that it would've worked better if they faked their deaths and reintroduced themselves as other young couples.

They got the friends and everyone except Jackie she saves Dean Cain's life. The pink drink was of course the blood of their victims. It's was also so fantastic that smoking saved Jackie's life..... LOL The script followed the book quite well as Gary Sherman is truly one of the best writer director producers on the planet. He has accomplished everything from winning awards in TV and film. His first at 23 in the UK for Deathline. His work largely goes unsung because he tends to push the envelope technically and emotionally in his real life characters. He also gets brought in around the world to clean up other producers, writers and directors serious studio messes.
A very caring Director/ Producer he is also known for Poltergeist 3 which was forced finished and released by the studio after the loss of Heather O'Rourke.
Who he loved deeply, almost like his own child. A technical masterpiece all effects were done "IN CAMERA" and NO CGI was used the working script sits in the Academy's Library in Beverly Hills, CA.
Other stand outs are WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE
VICE SQUAD, AFTER THE SHOCK ( about the San Francisco EQ)
MISSING PERSONS TV STEVEN CANNELL PRODUCTIONS (won many awards) and his producer was Johanna Persons did many movies together including MP
Johanna became VP of NBC under president Don Olmyer.

Gary is responsible for the start of many many famous and infamous
actors careers.
He lives happily being ahead of the curve waiting for the world to catch up.
Cheers!

I think she was. There's something in the book about her being involved, but I'm not sure what the connection was.

reply

I didn't understand the ending. Weren't the old people put in jail? Was it a new batch of old people, or was this a flashback to a previous tenant?

reply

Yes, it was a new batch of old people, led by the phoney (and long retired) NYPD detective who came to see the young couple when they originally called the police. Hope this helps.
This could have been a much better film if they hadn't spoiled it with a woolley ending - like what were the old people charged with, how was the jogger Allison tied into them, how did these old people overpower two young strong guys like Dean Cain and his friend........etc!

reply

NOOOOO... It was the same ones actually. If you listen closely to the sound, the voices are those of Dina Merrill, Hal Linden, and the other guy. Evidently they somehow escaped, and changed appearance. The idea is that the Glow can do much more than make you live forever, and they will continue to harvest it.

reply

No it was the retired cop, the doctor and the therapist. They had all been involved in the film previoulsy if anyone actually bothered wayching closely.

reply

Yep, the same people. They actually tell the jogger at the end their occupations, it was definately the dr, the therapist and the cop.

You are the DUMBEST, SMART person I have ever met!

reply

It was indeed the doctor, therapist and cop, but listen to the voices!!! I'm watching it again right now (Own it) and I want to see if I can figure out what they did here. Will comment after.

reply

It looked as if some of the bodies in the dumpster were shriveled up as if everything was extracted from them! And didnt Jackie find out from someone that Joseph Campanello's character was well over a hundred years old?
