Anything else like it? Well, first of all, I liked this film. Love? Hard to say. But I respect and appreciate it a lot because it seems to have slick Hollywood tendencies on a smaller European budget. I'm not necessarily recommending any of the following movies because they're great, but many are and the rest are worth viewing for movie buff experience. None of them have hypnotists in them, but they immediately come to mind when I think of this film:
"Don't Say A Word" has Michael Douglas playing a psychiatrist trying to bond with a young blonde woman to unlock a secret. It's not a great movie, but its by-the-numbers style makes it a fun watch.
"The Cell" has Jennifer Lopez playing a psychotherapist in a surprisingly enjoyable movie. We peer into the minds of characters just as we do in "Close Your Eyes/Doctor Sleep" as she pursues a serial killer.
"The Gift" has Kate Blanchett playing a woman with ESP who searches for a woman who has disappeared. She also "sees things".
"The Watcher" has James Spader playing a cop receiving psychotherapy who chases a serial killer from his past. This is a little gem and much better than it should be because of performances, including another suprisingly effective one by Keanu. I'm actually starting to believe it isn't that Keanu is a bad actor at all, but moreso bad casting agents who don't use his wooden talents to effective use, as they were in this movie, The Matrix, and even Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. I would leap at the chance to direct Keanu because I know how to play to his strengths. I think the movie Constantine (which I haven't yet seen) will be another good choice for him, proving that he's likely not as dumb as some may say he is.
BUT I DIGRESS.
Finally, "Silence of the Lambs," the modern grandmother of suspense, has Jodie Foster playing an FBI agent in a pyschological game with a serial killer in pursuit of another serial killer.
Hopes this helps! I'm sure there are tons of better choices, but these are the ones that immediately popped into my mind.
IMDB rocks!
