Worth playing now?

Hi I'm a big fan of retro games, and play anything regardless of its age. Some people seem to be put off if anything is pre-halo 3!!!

But I started and it seemed a little clunky after having just played COD4/Bioshock/HL2.
But was wondering playing it for the first time now if its going to be a good experience without the "nostalgia" factor thrown in?

I love this game. It's probably my favourite, if not one of my favourite games of all time.

Play it.

Play it late at night when it's quiet and you're alone. This isn't a bright lit living room with the TV and washing machine going in the background kind of game.

As long as you keep your expectations of the graphics and animations appropriate to the year 2000 you should definately enjoy it. The gameplay has its quirks but get around that and you'll probably have a new favourite.

I had the same thought as you and bought the game recently on steam. I discovered this wonderful little group that has been reconfigured the textures for higher definition. Worth checking out. http://offtopicproductions.com/hdtp/

Indeed, the HDTP is a must. In fact, the goal of the team producing it is to keep Deus Ex accessible to later generations of gamers.

Why? Because they feel that preserving this game is very important. It's more than just a time sink; it's has a lot to say. It makes you think like a good movie, and it immerses you like a vivid dream. It is, simply, the best game ever made.

Damn, those textures look sick!

I find that even today the gameplay stands up, not that Deus Ex is horribly old, but technology has improved in leaps and bounds, so you will definitely notice a difference. However this game, while impressive graphically at the time of it's original release, was much more about the story and the gameplay. In fact the storyline is exactly what makes Deus Ex shine far above and beyond anything of it's ilk that was done before or since. If you are the type of person that can get past the outdated graphics, then you will be thrilled beyond belief when you play through this game. It's a masterpiece, truly I cannot recommend it highly enough.

To put it simply, Deus Ex is THE BEST game ever made. End of story, no discussion. It blew away everything that came before it, and to this day, everything that has followed.

The story, characters, and gameplay is simply unmatched. A true Masterpiece in the purest sense of the word. Look past the graphics and discover a game unlike any other.

This is the most immersive game I have ever played. So much more than a typical FPS. If you enjoyed ANY of the following movies you will LOVE this game.

Blade Runner
The Matrix
Minority Report
Collateral
Johnny Mnemonic
Robocop
National Treasure

It's like a noir/detective movie set in the very near cyberpunk future. Entirely open ended gameplay. You can have a 0 body count, or leave none alive. I actually think the slightly dated graphics give it a sort of "used future" effect.

As someone already stated, do NOT play this on saturday morning with the radio on. My favorite time is at night (or twilight) with the distant roar of traffic outside.

Only Imperial Stormtroopers are so precise.

TOTALLY TRUE. I'm replaying it now, and those graphics so enhance the oldschool scifi-cyberpunk atmosphere. It's really astonishing... Feels like this future really stinks like the one in HARDWARE (M.A.R.K. 13) & Co.

I would stay clear of that if you are new to the game, same goes for the revision demo that just came out. If you wait a few weeks or months a couple of graphic mods are comming out. Mods a side its defo a game to play and play to the end.

my personal favorite game of all time.. the gameplay and the story make up for the dated graphics. When you play this game you get sucked right in and after few minutes you don't even care that graphics aren't up to par with recent games.

it's worth playing now, and worth playing always.

a new life awaits you in the off-world colonies!

If you're really a retro fan, you'll definitely be amazed by this game.

Finished it this year, and it's my fifth best game of all time, and it's the best or second best game this decade.
