A Woman Under The Influence

Was anyone else reminded of the John Cassavetes film while watching this?

I was as well, and I confess that with L'Avventura, these 3 movies reach the summit of questionnings about human relationships, in a brilliant and mistery way. I see Respiro as a complete and additional piece to those two movies, joining the quest for women integrity and dignity.
Although the legendary double faced image of woman is still shown through a man's eyes, it stands through a tolerant and goodwill mission but most of all with a taste of remembrance and love.

Absolutely YES. In fact I was going to post the exact same question in a thread of my own, when I noticed that you'd beaten me to it. Except that as far as movies go, Cassavetes' beautiful and painful picture was by far superior, and Mabel's condition was portrayed with verosimilitude (rather than simply the desire to make "wacky" seem cool and picturesque). Respiro is so wannabe in every way, I'm sorry... it tries so hard to be deep and artistic, even mythological in feel (see the ending, for example). My review of Respiro already expresses my views on the matter, so I won't repeat myself.

For anyone who's interested, it's posted on this board under my other username, Asa_Nisi_Masa2. By the way, I'm an Italian woman, from Rome, and don't think this is an example of fine contemporary Italian cinema at all.
