Why Football should be the number one sport in the US

'Witness the fact that soccer-playing America is massively liberal, loving, caring, socially conscious and nice. While soccer-hating America consists of increasingly isolated gangs of Bush-supporting, bible-bashing, gun-crazed, dungaree wearing, banjo-playing, quasi-fascist chicken-lovers and their twelve fingered, pin-headed, cyclopic, drooling monster children.'

Sounds like the Guardian has got a pretty good point in that case.

No, the Guardian is a newspaper in the UK. Hence the quote marks. Fool.

What sort of debate/argument is this? Are we seriously trying to decide the best sport by arguing which one produces the toughest players? Sound nuts but fun. NFL players may be able to beat up soccer players, but you know they would get their butts kicked by rugby players (no pads for them thank you very much). While in terms of fitness, studies have shown time and time again that the world's fittest athletes are.........F1 drivers, no wonder when you consider how long races are, the g-forces applied to a driver and the sheer amount of sustained concentration needed.

I doubt that very much, two reasons a) NFL players wear half a matress factory plus spandex, rugby players wear a mouth guard b) Jonah Lomu

Slight error--

Regarding:

"Witness the fact that soccer-playing America is massively liberal..."

"While soccer-hating America consists of increasingly isolated gangs of Bush-supporting, bible-bashing..."

Actually, the Bush supporters are Bible loving, while the liberals are the "Bush haters" & "bible-bashers".

Don't get liberals and conservatives mixed up.

I think they meant 'bible thumping'. This post is hilarious and surprisingly true to my experiences with different people, lol.

I am an American. I tried to play soccer as a kid. I thought it was too much running and not enough use of your hands. I appreciate the sport a little more now as an adult. Soccer might grow in popularity in the U.S. on a grassroots level. But it has a lot of competition in the marketplace as a spectator sport.

reply

It IS the number one sport in the US. We call it "Football".

I'm an American Male, and I played on a Soccer team as a kid and I enjoyed it a lot. The problem is just watching it is so incredibly boring.

Say what you want about Golf, Baseball, NASCAR, and even Poker Tournaments.. even-though they are considered a skill sport they are also boring to watch, but they have higher ratings than everyday Soccer.

I'm not even certain of this, but I'm sure the highest paid soccer player in the world makes way more money than the highest paid american athlete on the field. Yet our best athletes don't go anywhere near the sport growing up in school. There has to be a reason for this. It's probably because it's considered "girly" which is why American women are the best at female soccer.
