They ruined Sgt. Tate

He was the coolest character in the movie at first, but then they ruined him.

First he was calm, collected, and a good leader.

Then the evil of the trench gets to him and he becomes a little tainted.

Then he snaps out of it and tries to stop Quinn. Although he lamely loses the fight, he redeemed himself, and realized it was the evil in the trench. Then he ruined it all at the very last second by pathetic beg for mercy "I have children."

Man why did they put that in there?

...are you kidding? It's a man begging for his life as he knows he's about to die.

For me, that line cemented his character as brilliantly written. He was human; hell he'd already practically done the same thing with Shakespeare earlier on whilst stuck in the wire during the attack; he screams at Shakespeare to risk his life and save him.

So yeah, he wasn't a "hollywood" character who'd say something like 'go to hell' - he was human.
