Why did they stop making these Walking with... series?

I love this documentary and I love the dinosaur version too. But especially the dinosaur part did seem dated in the CGI in some parts. It was not bad, but I think it could be improved upon and be made even more realistic. But I have checked out some never documentaries on dinosaurs and they seem as much worse in quality, CGI, camera work and scenery - not even worth watching. So, can it really be true that the best documentaries on prehistoric animals are all 10 to 15 years old? CGI has improved a lot since then and become much cheaper. So why did they stop production for 10 years all over the world? Do people not want to watch these fantastic documentaries?

The Walking with... series was most likely put aside because the creators started working on other productions, like Primeval and the WWD arena live-show. Then, they've tried to milk the franchise again with the 3D theatrical movie, but that had catastrophic results.

None of the more recent dino docus have had the scope of WWD, though not for the lack of trying. There were some attempts at creating a new "big" documentary show about dinosaurs, but they've mostly ended up not being up to par, often due to the executive producers interfering with production. BBC did also try their hand at it again with Planet Dinosaur, which, although it was mostly serviceable science-wise, wasn't in the same ballpark as WWD and it was all-round pretty forgettable.

So good question. An updated new WWD would be fantastic, but dino shows have changed a lot since the original mini-series came out, and even the later entries in the WW series were tonally pretty far-removed from the originals, what with all the time-traveling human presenters and science being put more and more to the side in favor of spectacle and sensationalism. So if they brought it back, it might not even be the same anymore. Don't know if we'll ever find out... the 3D movie was a big failure and it may have tarnished the name of the franchise in the eyes of today's audiences.

WWD was pretty lousy compared to WWPB.

WWD had horrible CGI and the information was not very informative at all.

WWPB was a big improvement in only 2 years.

Planet Dinosaur is far more accurate and informative than WWD. Still it has flaws but I would check that out. The discoveries the last 10-15 years has greatly changed many of the previous notions and PD has these new discoveries. WWD is old, tiring and kind of stupid.

I tried to watch it but the CGI was to horrible for me to bear. I like WWD much more even though it is not perfect and not as great as WWPB. Planet Dinosaur is just so cheaply made. I can't even imagine it being good.
