how does a boy go from being fine and swimming one day, and dead from a life threating illness the next. don't you think he would have spent his last day sick in bed from the illness, then having the energy to swim a great distance. just a thought.

Actually they stated in the movie that Danny was going on chemo again, this time much stronger. He didn't die of the cancer, he died of an infection that was due to his lowered immunity from the chemo. Infections, especially in people with suppressed immune systems from chemotherapy, can come on and progress quickly.
