For those who delivered such harsh criticism

It appears there were many people who loved the movie until the end when it copped out about the whole attitude toward whether non-Catholics go to heaven. While I did find it a little disappointing the way they went about it, people do have to remember that the point of view shown was not supposed to be the official doctrine of the Church. This is the point of view of a child, demonstrating the faith of a child, in the same way the whole decathalon for salvation was a child's expression of faith. Strong, trusting, even if a little wonky. As for the Catholic boy's father, trying to comfort a child, it may not have been doctrinally sound, but it was a very realistic thing to say. When Pete gets older and actually LEARNS who Jesus was and what his sacrifice was all about, he will have the capacity to understand a different answer.

Hooray! I've found another siggy!
