very harsh criticisms

i have seen some awful movies in my day, but i thought this one was rather moving and well written. upon coming to imdb.com, i some extremely harsh criticism of the movie. beyond some other movies i've seen on here. attacking child actors, claiming the movie anti-semitic, chastising the child characters’ understanding of religious dogma, and such. is this because of the project greenlight allowed audiences a better glimpse into movie making and thus people feel the need to be overly critical and destructive?

i just was so shocked by some of the comments made on this movie. i really feel many of these comments were undeserved by the movie. i believe in criticism, and of course the picture was not perfect at all. i just felt it was not nearly as bad as some of the users are claiming it to be.

if it weren't for my horse, i wouldn't have spent that year in college.

I agree that the movie was not perfect.... however, it is a wonderful film.

I view it as a coming of age story for all.

Pete and Danny are obvious. Then you have mother standing up to the dad for what she believes is right for her kid. Patrick stands up (as a man) to his father to fight for his position. Rabbi in crisis (as anyone would be) gets to reexamine his beliefs and remembers, from Pete, that it is all about faith. Dad - to me was the biggest change ... learning to let go of preconceived notions and even letting down his pride a little.

It is all about love and wanting the best for the people that we love. The scene in the hospital breaks my heart. Not only for Danny but for the Rabbi who in his grief finds it in his heart to comfort Pete... even Danny's mom tries when she holds out her hand. They understood how important their son was to Pete.

In the end I think it was less about religion and more about wanting the best for Danny... Pete just wanted Danny to get his reward. Even the priest (gotta love Brian Denehy sp)lets him take the host because it is not concecrated - it was just a piece of bread, a medal to give to the decathalon winner.

I love this movie :0)

I watched PGL #1 and saw Stolen Summer years later on cable. It liked it much more than I expected.

It was by far the best of the 3 PGL films, imo.

It was the best cast and best script, imo.

The movie was very good. There are a few issues which mar it unfortunately, but the movie is still very good. Them mars just keep it from being excellent.

BS - the movie is crap but it COULD HAVE been awesome. But the combo of Jones not having any experience and a limited budget coupled with Biagi just being an idiot tanked this from day one. Balis didn't help either but at least he tried. The only dude on set who seemed to know his business was the 1AD Bruce Terris and Jones would have done a far better job had the DP been fired and replaced with someone who knew what he was doing, had control of his own ego, and had an interest in helping Jones make a killer film...
