but why Earth?

Doesn't make sense to go after a planet that's mostly made up of the thing that can kill you. Unless salt water doesn't bother them? Either way, the aliens must've been desperate

reply

The only excuse i could ever come up with for this is that the aliens didn't know what water was, it still makes them retarded for not doing a proper research on the planet before attacking though.

reply

Did we know the alien's motives? Do we know they intended to attack the Earth?

reply

They intended to harvest humans, and they killed thousands, the movie says it was a high fatality rate.

Emperor Ming: Why not?

It is from these minor details M. Night exhibits in all of his movies that to me reveal that he is somewhat weak as a writer and too reliant on plot devices. It's like he's trying to recreate the twist in Disney's Cinderella when the evil stepmom trips the servant carrying the glass slipper and it breaks and we as an audience freak out in disappointment only to be relieved when Cinderella pulls out the other slipper she's been carrying around.

I never got why so many people get so hung up on this point.
Since they never are shown to go into water but the entire movie is on land water is easily avoided. Don't go in the water. Go inside if it rains. See a lake...don't go in it. Don't go near the oceans.

You guys act as if the Earth is 100% water and there is no where to go without getting soaked.

To me this is completely a non issue. They went after humans....they did it on the land. No problem.

reply

Okay that's fair and now obvious.

reply

Boom!

There is water in the air, you know like humidity? There is water in all of the animals and plants on the planet and in the corn stalks the aliens were cutting. Humans are mostly water, does the water need to be in a glass I don't understand.

reply

yah idk about that either........

reply

Water can kill people, you know?

I forget what the movie says, but I want to say something about resources? There's a ton of wild life on this planet, natural gas, coal, oil, it's close to a sun - there's a lot here to work with.

reply

It’d be just as silly as humans going to the moon or making plans to go to mars where there is no breathable air.

reply

Touche, I like what you did there ;)
