Can one hide and still be pro-gun--complaints about lack of guns?

I definitely think given the military knew nothing of the alien's intentions, and the fact that the family did not know what they were either, it was wise to hide and not take a chance.
Just because we didn't see guns in this, doesn't mean they didn't have them
