Based on a true story?

I tried to look up if it was a true story based on a book, but found no info on the family this was based on. I suspect that it was billed as "based on a true story" just to draw viewers. Of course, I know that sex addictions happen in real life, but usually when a movie is based on a true story, it is from a book or published article by someone involved.

The most awkward part in the whole movie is when that young girl begins to ramble on and on to her at the community clinic. Strangers in waiting rooms do sometimes spill to total strangers, but the whole time the girl was talking, it seemed forced and almost speech-like.

Although, the writing for the wife was great. I think the whole family came off as believable. Best scene was when she got mad when they were watching the movie. It showed how much pain she was harboring.
