filmed entirely in new bedford

I just moved to Florida, but I lived in New Bedford all my life. This movie did a good job showing the history of New Bedford and the Portuguese lifestyle. I actually got alittle home sick watching this movie. Especially at the end of the movie when they went to the Portuguese Feast. It is the biggest feast in the United States. You can drink, dance, eat, etc. Another scene was when Actor Jason Isaacs was wearing a black whale baseball cap. Down in Martha's Vineyard they have merchandise called the black dog. New Bedford came up with the black whale. Maybe in your history class you heard that New Bedford was the biggest whaling area. New Bedford is also famous for fishing. I recommend everybody to visit New Bedford for the history, culture and the best seafood around. If you want to buy any black whale merchandise check out www.theblackwhale.com

No way, this can be about a portuguese people, but portuguese people speak portuguese, use portuguese words, eat portuguese food, dance portuguese music, and have portuguese names. Give me a break. If you forget pic is about portuguese people, you can even enjoy it... Actors are good, the script is ok, but I think pictures have a double role, to entertain and to teach.
The portuguese things in the film are sardines and the fado sung by Misia

I live in Dartmouth, Massachusetts. It's very close to New Bedford, so Emmy Rossum was RIGHT NEAR where I live!!!!!! I was too young at the time to appreciate her. I was eight when the movie was filmed. My dad met some of the crew.

I met Emmy on the set! She squirted me with a water gun when me and my friend Andy were on the set. Also, his cat was in the movie.

I also saw Sofia Milos while I was there.

The movie was also partly filmed in Dartmouth, I recognized Gulf Road and a few other locations around South Dartmouth.

One hilarious thing about this movie is that it pretends the Shawmut Diner in New Bedford is right near Mohegan Sun. Anyone from New Bedford/Dartmouth knows the Mohegan Sun Casino is a few hours away...in Connecticut!!!!

SWEET! That's the area of Dartmouth I live in!
And the thing about Mohegan Sun and Shawmut Diner...
Your'e right. I was pretty confused when Vicky was able to make it back home the second time her mom went into her room when she was missing. Then my dad sa\id he was going there for a company thing and he said it was in fact in Connecticut.

I thought it was very enjoyable. Better than half the romantic comedies they put out now.

Yeah, I live in RI and am not Portuguese, however my fiance is and he lives in Fall River, MA. I have not actually seen this movie, but his sisters owns it and loves it. I have to say, upon dating a Portuguese man, I find the culture interesting, fun, and VERY friendly (although I must admit I get sick of hearing "your too skinny" all the time).
