I enjoyed the movie.....a lot.

I recently rented Passionada and was glad I did being I missed out on seeing it at the theater. I live in New Bedford's neighboring town of Dartmouth but I know the city well so seeing it on screen was fun. Also recognizing familiar faces used as extras was fun. I enjoyed the storyline and I think the cast did a good job. However, the woman who played the part of Celia's mother-in-law did not portray the typical Portuguese woman of her age very well. She looked Spanish ( I believe it was said that she's Mexican) and her accent sounded more Hispanic than Portugese. Perhaps if she hung out with a Portuguese woman around her age, she may have perfected the more typical accent. It's distictively different from one of a Mexican or Spanish person. She did a good job with her lines in spoken in Portuguese.
I went to see the disaster movie, The Day After Tomorrow this past Friday and to my surprise I saw the girl who played Vicky. I don't remember ever seeing her before seeing Passionada. She's very talented. It's hard to believe she was only 14 yrs old! All in all, I think it's a good movie and I plan to give it to some of my relatives who have left New Bedford as a gift.

Hi Yania2Den,

Emmy Rossum(sp?) who played Vickie recently played the lead role of Christine in The Phantom of Opera, where she did her own singing. She is a trained opera singer, and has a beautiful voice.
