I personally loved Passionada

I thought the film was great! It had heart and that's what really made it appeal to me. Here you have Celia Amonte (played by the grand actress Sofia Milos), a woman who has lost her husband to the sea, and Charles Beck (played by the enchanting actor Jason Isaacs), a card counter who has basically run out of the little luck he had to begin with. In between the two is Celia's daughter, Vicky (played by the gorgeous young actress Emmy Rossum). Sure, you may think you've got the whole story figured out when Charles begins to lie his way into Celia's life and most importantly, her heart. But think again...this movie will have you entranced from the opening credits up to the very last dedication.

The direction in this film was fantastic, thanks to Dan Ireland. He and his cast and crew (yes, of course, that includes the brilliant writers as well) made a wonderful movie full of majestic characters and breathtaking landscapes. Even if you're not into the whole 'romantic/comedy' thing, you'll get a kick out of this film.

Now, the new ending you see when you buy the movie is the ending you want. The new ending is fantastic...a hundred times better than the old ending, which was just all over the place. Thank goodness they got the chance to change it.

So, all in all, whether you like fish or just a good and heartwarming movie, Passionada is the movie for you. Oh, and the music is wonderful! Keep your ears open for the songs and the instrumental music...you'll love it!

P.S. The shirts weren't _that_ bad, Mr. Isaacs. Now, the wig...well, you did a good job making sure it stayed put. You made it look good...even if it did change color every now and then(though I didn't notice until you said something). Bravo to Dan Ireland and the cast and crew!

I agree whole-heartedly!!!

I could not agree more. This film was fantastic, I admit I saw it only for my undying love for Jason Isaacs but the entire cast was brilliant, esp Sofia Milos.

aww I thought the shirts were very charming and cute. The wig .. no comment ;)

The film was really good. I bought it before I has seen it just for, I confess, Mr. Isaacs. Dan Ireland did do a really good job of directing it. I loved watching the film with the actor and director commentary. It gives good insight into the film that you would not normally get.

Personally, some of the shirts were alright. Some were a little campy but they were the perfect wardrobe for Mr. Isaacs character. The wig on the other hand, was not so good, although Mr. Isaacs did do a good job of working with it. It was interesting to see it change colours throughout the film.

I just moved to Florida, but I lived in New Bedford all my life. This movie did a good job showing the history of New Bedford and the Portuguese lifestyle. I actually got alittle home sick watching this movie. Especially at the end of the movie when they went to the Portuguese Feast. It is the biggest feast in the United States. You can drink, dance, eat, etc. Another scene was when Actor Jason Isaacs was wearing a black whale baseball cap. Down in Martha's Vineyard they have merchandise called the black dog. New Bedford came up with the black whale. Maybe in your history class you heard that New Bedford was the biggest whaling area. New Bedford is also famous for fishing. I recommend everybody to visit New Bedford for the history, culture and the best seafood around. If you want to buy any black whale merchandise check out www.theblackwhale.com

Passionada is another little gem of movie surprise that I had never heard of, but will now be one of my favorites. I've seen both actors before, but not as stars of a movie, and I've only seen Jason Issacs playing the heavy. He was surprisingly charismatic and charming. I don't know if Sofia Milos did her own singing, but I enjoyed it none the less. The cinematography was beautiful also.

If you guys want to see another good romance try to catch Unbowed on Starz Channel in April. This is a period inter-racial love story that was shot on a low budget, but it is still a gem with a great story. When you see Jay Tavare, who plays the lead you will see what a gift I am giving you. hehehe (Type in his name in the imdb search box if you want a preview.)

I don't know if Milos did her own singing or not, but if she did, her vocal track was obviously recorded separately. Her lip-synching is "off" much of the time - in the first song she does, I found this particularly distracting, and had to stop looking at her and just listen.

But then, like others, I too love this film for Mr Isaacs' charming performance. That scene, after he confesses his many deceptions to Celia, then begs her to overlook them because he loves her, is just heartbreaking. In most movies they'd have his character beg once or twice, then give up. The fact that he's so pathetic and persistent made him just that bit more real and human. A small detail, but characteristic, and the reason that this isn't just another throwaway romantic comedy.

According to melodyfla she did her own singing so it was not lipsinked.

According to the movie credits, the fado songs were done by Misia, who has a Wikipedia article.

The movie does not deliver on the needed emotion - passion - to fulfill its title. It has included numerous subplots which made the movie lose focus on the love story between Charles and Celia. But what makes up for it is the performances of the three leads especially Sofia Milos and Emmy Rossum, which makes the movie entertaining and watchable.

I loved it too. It was funny, romantic, and exceedingly entertaining. I thought that the entire cast did a great job. It was fun to watch and I really enjoyed it.

Just watched it yesterday in HBO. Gosh... I'm so moved by their intense emotions. I personally admire Jason Isaacs coz he can carry villainous, supporting and lead roles as well.

I liked the way Charles joked around in the movie and his friend mumbling about his father being a drunkard and all. The story shows both kinds of love - mother's love to her daughter, romantic love, and... how do you call love between friends? :)

I adore Jason Isaacs (and I like Sofia Milos too) and they were the reasons I watched this movie. I thought it was a slow moving, so-so movie and have concluded that I like Jason in historial/period/fantasy costume and as bad guy characters much, much more. This guy just has such a good way with being evil, LOL.

The finger sucking scene was the most erotic moment of the whole movie, and yet, it was kinda gross to me at the same time.

Emmy Rossum was a new introduction to me and I enjoyed her performance.

Sexy actors are the frosting on the cake of life.

Well, then, that just leaves more for me, ;-) because I thought it was incredibly sensual. I especially love the part in which Celia gives Charlie a bit of food, he sucks her finger and thumb, and then she puts her thumb in her mouth and sucks it, too. Wow. That was hot.

And the kissing that follows is yummy.

OK, this message board needs a frest start...

This is the first movie where I noticed Jason Isaacs...

I luv this movie. After viewing it, I went and discovered all the other movies
he was in, and was surprised and elated to know I had seen many of them...

I bought the DVD, and also luv the commentary by Jason, Sofia and Dan...

Who cares about the wig, inaccuracies, etc.

Charlie and Celia have chemistry, New Bedford Shines, and the "food scene"
well, makes you want to eat seafood...LOL
