Location was ridiculous

I may be crazy, but when he went to "atlantic city" I recognized the "casino" as the spot where I took my kids to First Night in the underground area in downtown Toronto (I believe near Scotiabank or somewhere in that circle). I right away thought that I recognized the wall. It looked just like they set up some tables and the Cashier sign in that area and started filming, and I could see the whole movie set as just that, a movie set. Even the floor was the same. It seemed the whole movie was filmed in areas I was familiar with as part of the downtown subway/underground system. Outside of Philip Seymour Hoffman who is riveting as always, I really had a hard time watching the film because it looked so staged that it was ridiculous. Also, we do NOT say aboot. Even my boss who is from the deep east and says "haish" for H, does not say aboot. We say a soft about. People in the US only guess I am from Canada because I enunciate really well and I say progress with a long O. That's about the only difference. I wish movies would pay more attention to detail.

It was a low-budget indie movie. Filming on location is expensive, and I doubt any casino in Atlantic City or Vegas would have allowed them to film there anyway, given how negatively they are portrayed.

agreed.

aside from people in that small area, i'm sure it came off as plausible to viewers.

I found the film to be one of the very few since the "talkies"....that have kept me in my seat/never moving/in theater or home television.

I figued it was staged because the casinos I've been to in Atlantic City and Vegas have their name on the tables and on the chips.

I have to say that when the police came to the airport at the end I was wondering why all those taxi cabs were there and then I realized they were police cars.

"Don't "yeah,yeah" me, Lois.

I've worked with offices ACROSS Canada, and they ALL say "aboot", and they end their sentences with "eh".

You don't know what you're talking about.

The troll is right. He knows better than us mere Canadians about how we really speak.
