What happened...

I was fixing my computer whilst watching this movie.. so I missed some small parts.

After the man who is diagnosed with leukemia has a fight with the main character does the main character tell Yanli to leave as I did not see him until the end of the movie when he is given the baby once again for what reason I do not know.

Any help will be appreciated.
