It's implied at the beginning of this that Carolina was with Marquez at one point. Was this meant to overwrite what was going on with Bucho in the last film or was it just the legends meshing and growing on their own. The commentary had Rodriguez say he would explain before he was done but he never does. More looking for an official RR stance on this and wondering if anyone has seen one.

Cheech says something along the longs of "But there was a problem, she was with Marquez." Your theory is the most plausible I've heard unless Rodriguez gives up some details on the non-existent interquel.

Or maybe that was just part of the embellishment of the story, a detail Cheech got a little wrong. Maybe it wasn't 'she left Marquez for El' but she simply was previously with Marquez, and he came back after her while she was with El.

Could be but maybe she was involved with Marquez before she knew Bucho. I would love to see another El Mariachi film that finishes the rest of that story.
