Who was that rock musician who knew Dahmer and even took the same bus?

On the old Letterman show-the one on NBC at 12:30-there was a rock group who was the featured artist and Letterman interviewed him.
The lead singer mentioned he went to school with Dahmer, took the same school bus and even played in the school band with him.

Anyone remember seeing that and do you recall the singer's name?
