I saw the film during filmfestival Gent and I think its a good film who diserves more then the points he makes until this time

I think so too. Amazing how good American cinema can be when it doesn't have to comply to the tired old Hollywood conventions. The anti-thesis to Forest Gump. I also thought the soundtrack was rather good.

Hey I also enjoyed every bit of this movie. It assures me that I'm one of those anti-hollywood-flick people. sometimes when the retarded performance is overdone, it can be so annoying to watch. This one is pretty good though. It caught me when I realized that he does understand his situation very well that he even collects fake dollars in his drawer before his mother's death, and that he can sense in a good timing that something is wrong with the fake dad and that he sends that guy away with his well-prepared fake dollars. That makes me even think that the reason he didn't go away when his real dad told him to, is because he knows something bad is gonna happen with his real dad if he leaves him with the guy (well it did go bad anyway).

Overall very enjoyable but hard to explain what part is the best scene though.

highly recommended for those who wants something different and enjoyable.

yeah I agree, but I don't think he stayed because he knew Dern was his real dad, he still seemed confused and he just was scared and froze. Basically he didn't listen to Dern because he was skeptical on who to believe. It's evident he wasn't sure who his father was when he says, "No!" when he finds his fathers letter after he's already dead.

I figure the best scene is Quaid discovering the bills are fake. For a second I thought they were letting him get away and wouldn't revisit him. Seeing him duped by a retard made the movie that much more enjoyable. Another good scene is the girl in the tub crying and feeling bad about what she did. I was glad they didn't keep her one dimensional.

Another thing I liked about the movie was the way they revealed how the retarded guy, being a champion fisherman, had studied the natural habits of fish all his life, and seemed to be able to instinctively apply this knowledge in his understanding the wiles of those humans he came in contact with. He knew how fish moved around, how they used evasion tactics to avoid being caught, but he also knew how to use this knowledge to be able to catch fish at their own game. It helped explain the crafty way in which he dealt with those people who were "fishing" for his money. It's like it was a "fishing" movie on two parallel levels.
