Ghost WOrld?

Under movie Connections it says that this made a reference to "Ghost World" I'm a big fan of Daria and the movie "Ghost World" and it seems that I must have missed something. Could someone refresh my memory on this movie reference?

they're both about two cynical girls who are best friends.

Yes, but that's really all there is to it. Before it was released in the Summer of 2001, Daniel Clowes accused MTV(not Glenn Eichler) of stealing the idea for Daria from the issues of Eightball that featured "Ghost World." The man obviously had no case against them, and looking back it was clearly a publicity stunt to try to get Daria fans and people like them in to see the movie. It worked.

BTW, if you haven't read any of Clowes' work, I suggest you do so.

Not for this boy-Daria blows Ghost World away like a RPG blows away an unprotected Humvee.

Actually the scene where they're running out of school after graduation reminded me of Ghost World. Probably because of the combat boots and general style of dressing.

No Comparison, Ghost World was very disappointing. Enid was a less than sympathetic character, the supporting characters are painfully unlikable and unentertaining. Daria is sympathetic. While some of the supporting cast can be annoying, they are funny and help carry the show. (THink about it, how many people do you remember from your teen years who are like Kevin, Brittany, Quin,n or Upchuck?)

At least when Daria was wrong about something, she gets put in her place, and grows from the experience. Enid, I wanted Enid to kill herself and quit wasting oxygen.

I loved Ghost World, both comic and movie, and Clowes' work in general, but as I rewatched all 5 seasons and 2 movies of Daria this past month, at no time did Ghost World pop into my head.

On paper you would think they're pretty similar, but they feel completely different. I think Daria is a lot more optimistic and hopeful while Ghost World was more cynical. This makes sense because Daria is about high schoolers who are going to college, Ghost World was about 2 girls who are post-high school but who never went to college.
