Surprisingly scary

I have to admit, this one took me by surprise, and the effect was certifiably creepy.

Yeah I agree. Being pleasant is much better than being smart.

And I actually liked this movie, didn't quite understand it until I logged onto here. But, I like it now. Very very good movie.

I think I am gonna still do a lil research on it tho, to get more into it because I see many ppl have different insights on the movie such as did Michael B. die at the beginning or was he already in hell when the movie started or what .. but either way it was "hella" kool.

Thanks, the quote is from Harvey. It's been one of my favorites.

I think Michael was dead/dying from the beginning. He was watching his blood flow out from under the bed. . .then it suddenly switches to the mental hospital. I should have picked up oh how EVERYONE was creepy, but I didn't. I hope it comes on again so that I can look for foreshadowing.

Question, how did his wife die? Did he kill her?

reply

Yeah he killed his wife, I think. They never said how she died. But remember he got that newspaper article from Satans book saying " brutal murder" so after he killed his wife , he killed himself..

The doctor had chances given to him throughout the story to redeem himself and if he would have 'passed', he most likely would not have suffered the fate that he did at the end (don't want to spoil it here).

The director talks about this in the commentary.

The first one (just as a gimme) is when he leaves his car to walk through the gates of the 'hospital'.

So, he was 'in-between' worlds, so to speak.

If you get a chance to, watch the DVD with commentary.

Makes this wonderful film (IMHO) even more interesting....

The ending is what got me. This movie spooked me because I thought of what if it is real.

The tableau of the charismatic devil guy pulling people under his sway [in the scene where he's dancing to Average White Band, 'Pick up the Pieces'], while that throbbing, sax-heavy music is taking over the room, haunted me for days. Great song, great adaptation into a movie - gives me chills thinking about that scene, where we're 1st beginning to see his power, accompanied by the powerful background music.
