The answer the patient got (possible spoiler)

What did the patient mean at the end when he said the answer is "the son came before the mother?"

Spoilers follow:

Perhaps it was because the "son" (the fellow that played Satin) was, in fact, the mother. If you'll recall the mother morphed into Satan in the background as the Sinbad character was telling him that he was just trying to clue him into how everything worked.

In addition the Satan character also revealed that he could be either a man or a woman was the situation required.

He had asked the doctor that question in the beginning of the movie. The doctor ignored responding... I came away with 2 interpretations. 1) the son (Adam) came before the mother (Eve). 2) We see the son in the movie and meet the mother later.

Well I thought of Jesus right away. That Jesus came before Mary and was truly the Son of God. The patient finally realised this.

Someone named Goatmystic making fun of Christianity.

The irony is so thick you could grill it 10 minutes a side and it would still be medium-rare.

Eve was Adam's mom, but he came before she did? Sexually or in some weird time traveling way that he was able to impregnate her with himself?

It is much more simply than people want to make it. Here it is. We meet satan first. He interacts with ty and they have all their little events. At the end the mother shows up with the apples, that the devil is so fond of. So we see that satan, the son, came first, then the mother showed up at the end right before ty was enlightened to his true predicament.
