Didn't realize there were so many similarities to HIMYM

Barney = Euan
Mike = Ted (in fact Eddie Kaye Thomas was up for Ted but lost to Josh Radnor in HIMYM)

The characters in this show are actually much funnier and it's depiction of New York City is more nuanced, imo, than HIMYM. We actually see minorities in title roles as opposed to supporting roles (taxi driver). I would take John Cho and Jason George over Marshall and Lily any day.

BUT... The writing is pretty spectacular on HIMYM. The metafictional aspect is just genius and somehow, even five seasons into it, it hasn't gotten old.

I think Chau is more like Barney than Euan.

The funny thing is that it could have been a lot more similar... the original unaired pilot of Off Centre starred Josh Radnor as Mike, but he was then replaced by Eddie Kaye Thomas when the show was picked up.

Yes, I knew about Josh Radnor. It worked out for him though since Off Centre got canceled.
