Nice show:) I think I'll buy seasons 2 and 3!

this is different - this is the ellen show that was on around 2002 or something only for one season, not "ellen" that was on in the 90s (which you can by seasons 2 and 3 of)!

I'm right there with you - I thought it was great, and Cloris Leachman was hysterical, as always. I loved it.

People this was not Ellen's popular sitcom that she came out of the closet on. This one is different look at the episodes it didnt last but 1 season if that. You are thinking of "Ellen" the 90's sitcom that was a hit. This one is "The Ellen Show" not the same

of course you're right camiller8302 but as i posted on another thread, the first season of this show (with cloris leachman, martin mull, et al) was much better than the first season of the show that made her famous (i'm just rewatching this one season and can't help but add to the 'yes' votes for this short series) ... i guess the ratings were poor but still, this was a good show ... cbs never has that many winning sitcoms traditionally so you'd think they'd stick it out with someone like ellen who just really started to hit it big ... and considering the number of people here and people i've mentioned this show to it doesn't seem like cbs did much to promote the show at all ... no one seems to remember it ...

cloris leachman as ellen's mother is just a stitch and a half ... she is such a natural at all the roles she takes on imho ... from drama to comedy, she can handle it all equally well which is pretty rare when you think about it ...

i'm not that familiar with the actress who played ellen's sister but she was a good airhead-type, tho there does seem to be something in the water supply in Clark, the small town where the show is set as there are some good whacked out side characters in this show ... martin mull does his standard martin mull character (he never really varies much if at all to be honest but he's made a buck doing the same thing for decades so whatever) ... jim gaffigan is an okay standup comic imho and he's ok in this as well ...

the real nutjob tho is the home ec teacher played by Kerri Kenney and i mean that in a good way ... she is so freaky it's spooky at times but always very very funny ... the interplay between her and ellen is really one of the best ying-and-clang duos imho ... they were great together ... very funny ...

oh! and i almost forgot ... Mountain Girl from "The Ladykillers" plays the gay gym teacher ... she has some great little bits ... wish they'd found more for her to do because as deadpan a look and a voice as she can muster, she can really top off a scene nicely ...

this is well worth the purchase or at least a rental from netflicks for a rainy weekend day with lots of popcorn ...
